Pokemon Pokopia lays out its plans for continuing to improve the experience for its players, highlighting known issues, and various upcoming improvements. Similarly to other titles in the franchise, Pokemon Pokopia is keeping players logging in to the game through various free gifts to download and limited-time events. However, even without these enticing offers, Pokemon Pokopia has proven to be a smash hit for Nintendo, The Pokemon Company, and Koei Tecmo.

So far, Pokemon Pokopia has been one of the big surprise hits of 2026. Just 4 days after launch, Pokemon Pokopia smashed a sales milestone, exceeding 2.2 million copies sold. The surprising success is even more impressive considering the game’s only available on the Switch 2 and, as a result, Nintendo’s stock price jumped by 15%. While these are all great numbers from a business perspective, the high demand has caused physical copies of the game to be harder to obtain, pushing websites like Amazon to increase its overall price. As Nintendo figures out the shortages, Pokemon Pokopia has plans for the short and long term future.

Pokemon Pokopia Players Think They Found a Hint for a Major DLC Expansion

An out-of-the-way piece of information suggests to players that Pokemon Pokopia is getting a big new DLC expansion sometime down the line.

Pokemon Pokopia Reveals Future Game Improvement Plans

In a new blog post on the official Japanese Pokemon Pokopia site, plans for the game’s future were laid out, revealing a current list of known issues currently impacting the title. These range from simple bugs, such as Spinarak’s type being listed incorrectly inside Pokemon Pokopia‘s PokeDex, to larger issues like Squirtle moving up a tree and preventing progression within the “Let’s build a home!” quest line. Here are the full range of known issues translated from the original Japanese site:

  • When requesting “Let’s build a home!” in “Pasapasa Koya Town,” Squirtle moves up a tree and cannot be spoken to, preventing the request from progressing.
  • In the “Gloomy Seaside Town” request “Find a Pokémon Center!”, if you destroy the cracked blocks on the bridge before Mojambo crosses it, it will be difficult to progress with the request.
  • When performing the “Find a Pokémon Center!” request in “Dusky Seaside Town,” if you follow certain steps, the event to repair the bridge in “Mojumbo” will not occur, and you will not be able to progress with the request.
  • In “Rugged Mountain Town,” if you follow certain steps, the event where you encounter “Rotom” will no longer occur.
  • When the request “Let’s clean up the roads!” in “Rugged Mountain Town” occurs under certain circumstances, it becomes difficult to progress with the request.
  • The type of “Itomaru” in the Pokédex is incorrect.

In addition, the post revealed upcoming improvements that Omega Force is planning to add in a future update. Specifically, two pain points in terms of how to progress were listed. The first revolves around the Break rocks with Rock Smash! request where some players have seemingly placed another block in the same spot as the cracked block near the “Crab Growl.” Similarly, with the “Take the Professor with you! request” in the gloomy seaside town, placing a different block near the cracked one to reach Snorlax provided to be a problem and potential progression blocker.

It’s clear that Pokemon Pokopia has plans for players long after the game’s launch, especially now that it has proven so successful. Shockingly, despite it not being a true mainline Pokemon title, Pokopia has currently become the highest rated game in the franchise of all time, a very impressive feat considering many just thought of the game as just another cozy-style experience when it was first revealed. Similar to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it seems that Pokemon Pokopia has launched at the perfect time.

Either way, it’ll be interesting to see if Pokemon Pokopia can retain its title in 2027 after the highly anticipated Pokemon Winds and Waves finally launches. The next major game was officially revealed during the February 2026 Pokemon Presents event, showcasing a visually impressive landscape, 3 new starters, and confirmation that it’s a Nintendo Switch 2 title. With a surprising 2027 release window, fans are hoping Pokemon Winds and Waves can avoid some of the performance and technical issues that plagued the open world of Scarlet and Violet.
