  • Players are using Clefable to counter Sceptile the Unrivaled’s Dragon-type in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Tera Raid battles.
  • Clefable’s Unaware ability ignores Sceptile’s attack and speed changes from Dragon Dance.
  • Alternative strategies include swapping Protect for Reflect to bolster defenses.

Upon the arrival of Sceptile the Unrivaled in Seven-Star Tera Raid dens, some Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players created and shared strategies for taking down the game’s latest foe. Given the Dragon-type Sceptile’s weakness towards Fairy attacks, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players honed in on Clefable as the crux of their solo raid plans.

Known as the Forest Pokemon, Sceptile is the Grass-type starter of Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire. Sceptile was subsequently given a Mega Evolution form in the sixth game generation, which granted it the Dragon type. With the arrival of Sceptile the Unrivaled as a Seven-Star Tera Raid boss in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the fact that it was given the Dragon-type as its Tera type is a callback to its prior Mega form. In the ongoing Tera Raid battle, Sceptile the Unrivaled can use the moves Leaf Storm, Leaf Blade, Dragon Dance, Breaking Swipe, Earthquake, and Thunder Punch.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Fan Notices Interesting Detail About Hatterene’s Pokedex Entry

An astute Pokemon Scarlet and Violet player discovers an interesting detail about Generation 8 Pokemon Hatterene in her Pokedex entry.

Even though Dragon Pokemon are still formidable in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, their weakness to Fairy Pokemon gave players plenty of ways to defeat Sceptile the Unrivaled. On the r/PokemonScarletViolet subreddit, a Pokemon trainer named giaman shared the Clefable they used to defeat Sceptile using a team in a solo Tera Raid battle setting with AI-controlled teammates. According to their post, Clefable’s effort values (EVs) in physical defense and special attack were maximized, with four leftover points put into HP. Clefable was also given the ability Unaware, which makes its moves ignore any attack and speed start changes Sceptile would gain from using Dragon Dance.

Pokemon Fan Shows How to Solo Sceptile Tera Raid with Clefable

Knowing that Fairy-type Pokemon are considered a direct counter to Tera-Dragon bosses like Sceptile, giaman gave Clefable an Expert Belt to boost the power of Draining Kiss and Moonblast. Giaman’s Clefable also had Protect and Calm Mind to ward off the brunt of Sceptile’s Grass-type attacks. For the first three turns of the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Tera Raid battle, giaman had Clefable use Draining Kiss. After Terastallizing and using another Draining Kiss on the fourth turn, giaman’s strategy stated that one use of Protect on turn five would prevent Sceptile from temporarily erasing Clefable’s Unaware ability. For the rest of the battle, giaman recommended mixing up Draining Kiss, Calm Mind, and Moonblast.

In response, some Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players chimed in with alternate strategies, such as swapping out Protect in favor of Reflect to bolster their team’s defenses. Though Sceptile is the last of the Hoenn starter trio to become a Tera raid boss, only time will tell which Pokemon will step into the spotlight after.
