Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players have another chance at catching Chesnaught through 7-Star Tera Raid battles that will be available through April 30. Tera Raid battles have offered Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players a chance at obtaining the final evolved forms of the starters for the previous generations, but only during limited windows.

Released on Nintendo Switch in 2022, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet immediately proved controversial. While fans quickly found a lot to love, the two games had major bugs and performance issues on the system. Nintendo and Game Freak have put in a lot of effort over the last few years to improve the games. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet got a free Nintendo Switch 2 update last year, offering a drastic leap over what had been offered before.

Pokemon Fans Are Still Baffled By Weird Gold and Silver Decision 27 Years Later

Nearly three decades after their release, Pokemon Gold and Silver fans debate a strange choice that was made by the developers.

Getting Chesnaught in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players can find Chesnaught in 7-Star Tera Raid battles now through April 30 at 4:59 p.m. PT. While Chesnaught is normally a Grass and Fighting-type, this particular Chesnaught immediately terastallizes into a Rock-type. That means players may want to lean on Fighting, Grass, Water, Steel, or Ground-type moves. Chesnaught previously appeared in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Tera Raid battles, so players can lean on the same established strategies. However, it can only be caught once per save data, so players that have already successfully caught one will only receive items for successfully defeating it. It is a good opportunity to farm Exp. Candy and Rock Tera Shards, though.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet ‘s DLC allows players to catch Chespin, but the Tera Raid event lets them get its final evolved form without buying the Indigo Disk expansion, or having to find a trade. That’s great news for Pokemon fans looking to spend less, and there are other incentives, as well. Notably, this Chesnaught has the Mightiest Mark, which allows it to be referred to as “the unrivaled” when sent into battle.

Chesnaught debuted in 2013’s Pokemon X and Y, but it has gotten a lot of increased attention lately. Pokemon Legends: Z-A gave Chesnaught a Mega Evolution last year, alongside several other existing Pokemon. For the first time in years, Mega Evolution is back and playing a big role in the franchise, not only in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, but also in Pokemon Champions, as well. Pokemon Champions does not currently allow players to use every single Pokemon, but Chesnaught and its Mega Evolution were included in the first batch. As such, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players that don’t have a Chesnaught have some extra incentive to go get one, since they can then use it for their teams in Pokemon Champions.

While Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have been available for nearly four years, Game Freak continues to support them with in-game events. It’s unclear how long that might continue, since newer games like Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Pokemon Champions are available. The developers might continue to host these events until Pokemon Winds and Waves come to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027, but there’s no way of knowing for sure. For the time being, those still enjoying Pokemon Scarlet and Violet should enjoy these events while they continue to be offered.
