- Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s DLCs introduced 16 new powerful Pokemon with near-perfect stats, continuing the trend of strong critters.
- The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk DLCs showcased powerful critters like Gholdengo and Raging Bolt with impressive stat distributions and signature moves.
- Ogerpon, one of the DLC Pokemon, is highly versatile and considered one of the best in the game due to its ability to adapt to different strategies and board states.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet‘s The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk DLCs combined added a total of 16 new Pokemon to Gen 9 and the series as a whole, on top of the 100+ from the base game, continuing the trend of overly powerful critters with a near-perfect stat distribution. This is something that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet‘s Gholdengo, alongside other borderline-OP mons like Kingambit and the Dondozo and Tatsugiri pair, immediately showed as soon as competitive VGC tournaments went live. The critters introduced in both The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk further build on this idea, with an example coming from Raging Bolt’s incredible Special Attack stat and its Thunderclap signature move. However, one of the best of them all is probably one DLC Pokemon that is much more versatile than the rest.
For Pokemon to be versatile is one of the best traits they can have when it comes to how strong they can be in battle, as players, especially in competitive settings, will have to adapt and change strategies on the spot based on a mix of RNG and board state. This doesn’t mean that creatures that are typically more pigeonholed into one role and build don’t do well, with Amoonguss proving just as much. Still, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet‘s Ogerpon is probably one of the best pocket monsters in the game, and for good reasons.
How Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Indigo Disk Completes One Noteworthy Ancestry Line
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Indigo Disk takes one character’s family tree full circle, encompassing three generations of Pokemon games.
Why Ogerpon is One of the Best Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet
Not only does The Teal Mask DLC’s Ogerpon have a good, compelling backstory, but she can also be one of the biggest threats in battle as well. This otherwise cute and lovely critter can pack quite the punch with the right tools, and her various masks are a great way to start. Ogerpon’s form, Ability, Tera type, and signature move will all change based on the mask she is wearing from the following selection:
- Teal Mask
- Cornerstone Mask
- Hearthflame Mask
- Wellspring Mask
Teal Mask Ogerpon
Teal Mask Ogerpon may not seem particularly strong, but players can take advantage of her Defiant Ability to counter the Intimidate-heavy meta in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet‘s Indigo Disk DLC – something that’s been an evergreen in competitive Pokemon thanks to critters like Incineroar and Landorus. Likewise, Teal Mask Ogerpon can deal massive damage to many meta-defining critters, including Flutter Mane and Urshifu Rapid-Strikes. On top of that, Ogerpon’s Teal Mask Tera makes her faster with a Speed boost.
Cornerstone Mask Ogerpon
Cornerstone Mask Ogerpon is another often overlooked threat, but she can unexpectedly destroy enemy teams thanks to her Sturdy Ability that makes her harder to defeat and Ivy Cudgel becoming a Rock-type move capable of taking on pesky Fire and Flying types. With a base power of 100 and 100% accuracy, Rock-type Ivy Cudgel is one of the best offensive moves for the type. Sturdy further allows players to invest in Ogerpon’s Attack and Speed over defensive stats, making her a fast attacker who can take out unaware foes.
Hearthflame Mask Ogerpon
Hearthflame Mask Ogerpon can also be dangerously strong on many teams thanks to her Mold Breaker Ability and Fire/Grass Pokemon type combo in Scarlet and Violet. Outside of Scovillain, Hearthflame Mask Ogerpon is the only other critter with this type. Mold Breaker allows Fire-type Ivy Cudgel to break even the likes of Heatran, which normally runs Flash Fire to be immune to Fire attacks. With Grass and Fire being a good defensive combo, Hearthflame Mask Ogerpon is also an amazing Follow Me user.
Wellspring Mask Ogerpon
Much like Hearthflame Mask Ogerpon, Wellspring Mask Ogerpon is one of the best Follow Me users in the game, rendering Choice Band or Choice Scarf Surging Strikes Urshifu completely harmless. With Spiky Shield, Water Absorb as its Ability, and a good type combo both offensively and defensively, Wellspring Mask Ogerpon is one of the best Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet‘s Indigo Disk at the moment, and rightfully so. Finally, and this applies to all Ogerpon forms, this Pokemon will stand the test of time even when Terastallization cycles out as a gimmick since the bulk of her power comes from the masks more than the Tera type.
