Pokemon TCG Pocket Players Think They’ve Figured Out The Next Crown Rare Item

Pokemon TCG Pocket Players Think They’ve Figured Out The Next Crown Rare Item

Some Pokemon TCG Pocket players think they may have figured out something about the next Crown Rare item card to be introduced to the mobile card battler, using one of the game franchise’s longest-running trends as a basis for their theory. Pokermon Trading Card Game Pocket‘s second year has already introduced a lot of powerful Pokemon cards, but an interesting omission from the most recently released set leaves new possibilities for the future.

The release of the Crimson Blaze set in Pokemon TCG Pocket in the middle of December was a game-changer, bringing in powerful new Mega Evolution Pokemon to balance out the ones that were introduced to the game in Mega Rising. Notably, the Mega Evolutions of the Kanto starters have taken center stage, providing big boosts to Grass, Water, and Fire-type decks. While not one of the biggest sets released so far, it still manages to fit in some fun Trainer cards, like Serena, who helps players make sure they can get their Mega Evolutions out of their decks and onto the playing field.

Pokemon TCG Pocket’s Next Crown Rare Item May Be Water-Based

Now, some fans have a theory about the next item card to hit Crown Rare status, the rarest Pokemon TCG Pocket card classification of them all, easily recognizable by the gold crown logo in the lower left corner and the metallic gold background. Only five Crown Rare cards were picked for Crimson Blaze, including Aegislash, Klefki, and Lilligant, with the remainder made up of new Item cards: Flame Patch and Quick-Grow Extract. Those item cards are good for Fire and Grass decks, respectively, letting players add energy or quickly evolve Pokemon. Since Fire, Grass, and Water-element Pokemon share a long history together in Pokemon games, some fans are convinced that the next Crown Rare item to be introduced will be useful in decks with Water-type Pokemon.

Though it’s only speculation, there are a few item cards in Pokemon TCG Pocket that might fit the bill for an upgrade to Crown Rare under this theory. One such item, the Fishing Net, was first introduced in the Celestial Guardians set, and it allows players to remove any basic Water-type Pokemon from the discard pile and place it back into their hand. While some Crown Rare cards are introduced in the same set as their much more common versions, as is the case with Quick-Grow Extract, other sets bring in previously released cards and give them a revival and an upgrade featuring a golden background.

Based on Flame Patch’s ability to add a Fire-type energy to a Pokemon, one seemingly popular suggestion would be to give Misty’s Pokemon TCG Pocket card a Gold Crown version. Part of the game since the beginning, Misty’s card from the Genetic Apex set lets players flip a coin until they get tails, adding one Water-type energy to a corresponding Pokemon for every instance of heads that they flip. However, some fans say this card is disqualified because it is a Supporter card, not an Item card. This point of order led to a discussion about the possible creation of a brand-new card that would allow players to pull a Misty card from their deck, as she has the potential to utterly dominate a match from the first turn.

Ultimately, there’s no way of knowing at this point if the development team will even complete the elemental trifecta of Crown Rare item cards. Following Pokemon TGG Pocket‘s one-year anniversary, the release of new sets has slowed down a bit, as the first year saw a new batch of cards introduced at the end of almost every month. The first set of the game’s second year, Mega Rising, was released at the end of October 2025, and its follow-up, Crimson Blaze, didn’t arrive until December 17. The next set has yet to be officially announced, but following that month-and-a-half release trend, it’s likely to arrive in late January or early February.
