A renowned Pokemon leaker and insider has taken to Twitter/X to share a leak regarding Pokemon Winds and Waves‘ release window, and it’s not good news. Pokemon Winds and Waves are the 10th generation of Pokemon games, first revealed with a 3-minute trailer earlier this year on February 27, which is Pokemon Day. The trailer was much more in-depth than the one seen for Gen 9 games, which only revealed the games’ titles and the starters. However, it also came with a surprise, as Pokemon Winds and Waves were announced for 2027.
This was not expected by many fans because 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of the series, and also the fourth full year of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, so it was believed that Gen 10 would come out this November. A 2027 release window still makes sense, though, especially considering that Gen 9’s reception was very poor due to performance issues and glitches, giving Game Freak more time to polish Gen 10. For fans who were hyped for Pokemon Winds and Waves‘ starters and the new Southeast Asia region, though, the bad news is that the release may be even further than anticipated.
Rumor: New Pokemon for Pokemon Winds and Waves Leaks Online
A semi-credible source claims to reveal the general design and typing for one critter in the upcoming release of Pokemon Winds and Waves on Switch 2.
Say Goodbye to Pokemon Winds and Waves in 2026
Pokemon leaker Riddler Khu, who has a proven track record regarding their leaks dating back to Pokemon Legends: Arceus, stated on Twitter/X that Pokemon Winds and Waves‘ 2027 release will be late next year and that the game won’t show up again this year. This can be very disappointing for all fans, as it means that Gen 10 will most likely be released in November 2027, which is the typical release month for Pokemon games.
Furthermore, no more Pokemon Winds and Waves news in 2026 means that the games will most likely get further reveals on Pokemon Day 2027 and not before. This, in turn, means a whole year with no news for Gen 10, which can be good from a hype cycle and marketing standpoint, but also not great in terms of retaining fans’ interest. This is because Pokemon Pokopia came out in March and Pokemon Champions around three weeks ago, but right now, no mainline series release is in sight until Gen 10, creating a gap between Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Pokemon Winds and Waves of around two years.
One could argue that Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen‘s release on Switch counts as a mainline release, and while it’s not wrong, these games are from 2004, and they currently don’t have Pokemon Home support yet. On top of that, it’s impossible to complete Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen‘s National Pokedex at this time, as Gen 3 games are needed for that.

Since Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald on Switch and Switch 2 were datamined with Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen‘s release, it’s possible that they will be released towards the end of 2026 or on Pokemon Day 2027 to ease the wait until Gen 10. Even still, if Riddler Khu’s leak is true, which had already been reported earlier this year, it’s going to be a long time before Pokemon Winds and Waves finally rear their heads again, and then more months of silence may follow from Pokemon Day 2027 until Summer 2027.
