Weeks after the official reveal of Pokemon Winds and Waves, a fan has crafted a new piece of concept art that featured a fully-evolved form of Pombon. The Pokemon Winds and Waves fan artist also shared a few details about the inspirations behind their Pombon evolution concept, despite details about the upcoming Gen 10 titles being elusive as of this writing.
Known as the Puppy Pokemon, Pombon is one of the three starters of Pokemon Winds and Waves, alongside Browt and Gecqua. According to the information that The Pokemon Company has revealed so far about Gen 10’s starters, Pombon has a guileless but friendly demeanor. Pombon is a pure Fire-type Pokemon that can have the Blaze ability, which boosts the power of its fiery attacks when its HP drops to 33% or less. Some keen-eyed Pokemon trainers also stated that Pombon has a mark on its front paw that looks like the Japanese kanji for ‘fire,’ which is a nod to its elemental type.

Game Freak’s newest Pokemon spin-off arrives with a hidden teaser that calls back to the debut trailer for the upcoming Pokemon Winds and Waves.
Pokemon Fan Artist Shares Awesome Cerberus Evolution For Pombon
Although some Pokemon fans have designed various evolution concepts of Pombon, one artist added their take into the mix. On the official Pokemon subreddit, a user named BurgooKing shared their Pokemon concept called “Kebakarus,” the Wildfire Pokemon. Kebakarus is a fiery Cerberus-inspired quadruped that has orange fur, with some sections of gray and black fur on its legs, mane, and tail. Kebakarus also has two flaming heads on its sides that are attached to its mane, which imitate the three-headed Cerberus depicted in Greek mythology. When Kebakarus is excited, the ends of its mane ignite, and that these flaming heads have dangerous minds of their own. According to BurgooKing, Kebakarus got its name from Kebakaran, the Indonesian word for “great fire,” and from the aforementioned Cerberus.
Additionally, Kebakarus’ design came before its name. Given that Pokemon Winds and Waves are set in a tropical region based off of Southeast Asia, Kebakarus’ name makes sense within the context of Gen 10’s setting. Along with its Fire-type characteristics, Kebakarus was also given the Fairy-type. The Fire and Fairy dual-type pairing is currently unused in the Pokemon series. However, given the friendly nature of Gen 10’s Puppy Pokemon, it is possible that Pombon could officially evolve into a Fire and Fairy critter once Pokemon Winds and Waves arrives in 2027. BurgooKing stated that Kebakarus would have the abilities Blaze and Magic Guard to pick from. Magic Guard prevents the user from taking indirect damage from Status conditions, or from moves like Curse or Leech Seed. Should Pombon end up evolving into a Fire and Fairy dual-type like Kebakarus, it would be an effective option against Dragon, Fighting, Grass, and Bug-type Pokemon during a battle. On the other hand, Kebakarus would be weak to Poison, Rock and Water attacks, though some of the damage from Poison-type Pokemon could be mitigated with the Magic Guard ability.
Pombon’s Potential Evolution Sparks Fan Imagination
In response, Pokemon trainers complimented BurgooKing for their handiwork. Some fans stated that the design of Kebakarus looks like one that could officially be used in Pokemon Winds and Waves, despite being a fan-made creation. A few Redditors stated that the Fire and Fairy dual-type pairing for Pombon’s evolved forms could be handy. Another trainer added that the Cerberus-inspired design would lean more into Kebakarus being a Fire and Dark dual-type critter, similar to Houndoom. BurgooKing stated that they were going for a maned wolf appearance for their Kebarakus concept. Since The Pokemon Company has not revealed too much information about the upcoming games so far, it remains to be seen what the fully-evolved forms of each Pokemon Winds and Waves Starter critter will be.
Despite the limited information available about Pokemon Winds and Waves so far, fan reception to Gecqua, Browt, and Pombon has trended positive. With Pombon being the first canine starter of the Pokemon franchise, only time will tell what Pokemon Winds and Waves has planned for its Starter trio once the next generation begins.
