Pokemon Pokopia releases soon for the Nintendo Switch 2, and while that means players still have a full story to play through, there are also timed events to look forward to. What’s more, Pokemon Pokopia players can expect even more events in the future, especially given how close to release this initial event is.

Pokemon Pokopia reviews are glowing, with the life simulation game being the best reviewed Pokemon game in a long time. In it, players are a Ditto transformed into a human. Pokemon Pokopia takes place in a post-apocalyptic version of the Pokemon world, where players are tasked with rebuilding towns and the like. Players will need to rely on their fellow Pokemon to collect materials and craft a cozy home.

Pokemon Pokopia is ranked in the 98th percentile of games scored on OpenCritic, which grants it a Mighty rating, a top critic average of 88, and 94% of critics recommending the title. On Metacritic, it has an 88 Metascore with generally favorable reviews. No user scores are yet available for Pokopia since it has not officially launched yet.

Pokemon Pokopia Gets Its First Event

  • March 10 to March 24, starting and ending at 1 pm PT
  • Collect special items and cotton spores
  • Must have a rebuilt Pokemon Center

The first event is dubbed “More Spores for Hoppip,” and it begins on March 10 and runs through March 24. If someone is not able to play Pokemon Pokopia on day one, then they have some time to complete the event, but anyone without a Nintendo Switch 2 may need to act quickly if they wish to take part.

During the event’s run, players will be able to befriend Hoppip. Players will be able to collect cotton spores and turn those in for picnic-themed furniture items. Using these items to create Pokemon habitats will let players befriend Hoppip’s evolutions, Skiploom and Jumpluff. It’s worth noting that these Pokemon cannot be encountered outside this event or on Cloud Islands, and it’s uncertain when/if this specific event will return. Players will need to progress through the main story, completing a town with a rebuilt Pokemon Center before they can begin.

Pokemon Pokopia Day One Mystery Gift

ditto rug

Pokemon Pokopia is also launching with a Ditto Rug Mystery Gift (whether you own a physical or digital version of the game). Players will need to spend about thirty minutes playing through the opening sequence before they can access the Mystery Gifts menu, but once that’s complete, it’s pretty easy to claim the gift. It’s worth noting that, unlike Hippop, players can obtain the Ditto Rug through normal gameplay in Pokemon Pokopia, but they get it earlier via Mystery Gift. To claim it, players just need to do the following:

  • Make sure to have a linked Nintendo account and ensure your Switch 2 is connected to the internet.
  • Play through the opening sequence for roughly thirty minutes.
  • Access the Mystery Gifts menu
  • Choose Get via the Internet
  • Players will be able to claim this Mystery Gift through January 31, 2027.

It seems The Pokemon Company is celebrating the release of this game, alongside Pokemon‘s 30th anniversary, giving players a bunch to look forward to already. They should be aware that a day-one update is releasing alongside this content, which simply fixes a few bugs in the game. If someone has already preloaded the game, then they’ll be prompted to update their copy. Otherwise, they should expect a quick update when downloading the game.
