Pokémon Pokopia‘s first paid DLC, Bubbly Basin, is arriving in the game alongside a major free update on Wednesday. While the big focus of that major update has been the new ability Ditto gets that lets them dive underwater, I’m almost even more excited about another feature we’ve just learned about: shared storage.
As reported by Famitsu and shared by Serebii, Pokopia‘s free update will apparently include some sort of shared storage unit, which can hold up to 140 items and allows players to access stored items from anywhere a bin is placed. So if you put an item in a shared storage box in Withered Wasteland, you can put another shared storage box down in Bubbly Basin and get that item out.
Simple as this sounds, this is a game changer for Pokopia. A lack of shared storage was one of my biggest issues with this game. I understand it to an extent: Pokopia‘s limited inventory essentially forces you to start over in each new region you visit, so you can’t easily haul resources from one place to another and fast-track yourself. But after a certain point in the story, it becomes unwieldy and confusing to keep track of what you have in what bin in what region, and where in that region. I’ve tried repeatedly to separate things out into decoration bins, resource bins, block bins, and so forth, but inevitably I get them all jumbled up in my brain and have to check every single bin everywhere before I finally find where I left that Wing Fossil head. (The community is appropriately thrilled).
Other cool info Serebii pulled from Famitsu includes more confirmed new Pokémon (Wiglett and Mareanie), frameless glass, a special item to generate electricity underwater, and the ability to use Rollout, Rototiller, Rock Smash, and Leafage underwater without issue.
The big Pokopia update drops on Wednesday, August 5. If you’ve bought the $35 expansion pass, you’ll also get access to the new region, Bubbly Basin. Everyone else will still get the Dive ability. Hopefully the shared storage box is part of the free update, too!
