Popular Sci-Fi Survival Game is Coming to PS5

Sci-fi survival game Astroneer is set to receive an official PS5 version later this month, with the popular game receiving some nice performance upgrades with the transition. The space survival game developed and published by System Era Softworks was a fan-favorite following its full debut in 2019. The game saw praise for its atmosphere and exploration elements, with players able to gather resources and terraform planets into their own image with a variety of different tools to utilize. Now, Astroneer‘s cosmic fun is coming to the PS5 in the near future.

Astroneer has seen plenty of updates since its initial release, with the game spending three years in early access before its 2019 launch. Astroneer would receive new versions on the PS4 and Switch following its initial release, with popular publisher Devolver Digital later acquiring System Era Softworks and helping to create Astroneer‘s “Glitchwalkers” expansion. Devolver Digital and System Era Softworks even revealed a spinoff coming for the survival game, with Starseeker: Astroneer Expeditions set to launch sometime next year. Astroneer is now getting ready to make the jump to yet another Sony platform.

Popular Sci-Fi Game Astroneer is Getting a PS5 Version

System Era Softworks officially confirmed on Friday that Astroneer will receive a PS5 version later this month. The PS5 version will reportedly arrive as a free upgrade for players who already own the game on PS4, not requiring players to re-buy the game for the newest Sony console. Astroneer also laid out some of the improvements players can expect from the game’s PS4 version, with the game able to run with 4K resolution at 60 frames per second alongside the addition of special support for Dualsense controllers. Astroneer‘s PS5 version is expected to launch on November 20.

Astroneer‘s upcoming release on PS5 will serve as a precursor to the launch of the game’s previously-mentioned spinoff. System Era Softworks has repeatedly stated that Starseeker: Astroneer Expeditions is not intended to be a sequel to Astroneer, but rather an action-focused experience more similar to the popular extraction shooter genre. Starseeker will also be using a live service-oriented model with regular updates to the game, though System Era Softworks has confirmed that Starseeker: Astroneer Expeditions will not feature any in-game microtransactions.

Astroneer is Getting a PS5 Version

Astroneer‘s PS5 version will look to be a nice upgrade for fans of the game amidst a busy holiday season for the Sony console. This week saw the long-awaited release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, with the seventh numbered entry in the beloved shooter series serving as one of the biggest new game releases of the year. Developers like Square-Enix and Sega are also getting in on the end-of-year releases, with Octopath Traveler 0 and Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut scheduled to debut next month. PS5 gamers should have plenty to look forward to with lots of exciting releases throughout the year.
