Lords of the Fallen has massively expanded its co-op mode just ahead of its debut as part of the PlayStation Plus monthly free game lineup. The timing of its latest update, which introduces several other novelties beyond co-op improvements, gives PS Plus a particularly bright highlight for April 2026.

Apart from Lords of the Fallen, the PS Plus free games for April 2026 include Sword Art Online Fractured Daydream and Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered. The trio will become available to claim across every tier of Sony’s service on April 7. In the meantime, PS Plus subscribers are still able to grab last month’s freebies: Monster Hunter Rise, Slime Rancher 2, PGA Tour 2K25, and The Elder Scrolls Online Collection: Gold Road.

PlayStation Plus Still Hasn’t Delivered on a Promise It Made in 2025, But That’s a Good Thing

Sony talked a big game about a big shift for PlayStation Plus in 2026, but a third of the way through the year, that change is nowhere in sight.

Lords of the Fallen Gets Big Co-Op Update Ahead of PS Plus Debut

The upcoming PS Plus lineup has now received a timely bonus, arriving in the form of a new Lords of the Fallen update. Identified by version number 2.5.338, the April 3 build improves the game’s co-op support by giving guest players more freedom in the actions they can take during multiplayer sessions. The update also includes a range of matchmaking and stability improvements.

Following the early April 2026 patch, co-op partners are now able to upgrade all manner of equipment, socket upgrade items, initiate interactions with vendors, rest and warp between Vestiges, use Chrysalis Rebirth, begin boss encounters, plant Vestige Seeds, and skip cutscenes. The changes make Lords of the Fallen‘s Shared Progression mode significantly less host-dependent than before. The new patch also appears designed to make the game’s second multiplayer format more flexible, rather than merely more permissive. In non-shared progression sessions, hosts can now choose between full and limited guest permissions, creating a clearer distinction between players seeking a more collaborative run and those preferring tighter control over any and all progression-related actions.

Beyond its headline co-op overhaul, update 2.5.338 also streamlines session setup in Lords of the Fallen. Players can now connect by setting a password at a Vestige and using the same progression settings, while standard matchmaking remains available for those leaving the password field blank. The patch also fixes several co-op-related bugs and broader technical issues, including bugs that prevented clients from socketing Umbral Eyes into the Umbral Lamp and runes into weapons during multiplayer sessions. Other changes include several platform-specific fixes, among them fixed PS5 DualSense support on the Steam version of the game.

Update 2.5.338 does not appear to be the end of post-launch support for Lords of the Fallen. In an April 3 social media post announcing the patch, Hexworks confirmed it was “still updating the game.” The studio did not provide further details, but its release cadence over the past three years suggests another major update could follow by late 2026 or early 2027. In the meantime, PS Plus subscribers will be able to claim Lords of the Fallen between April 6 and May 4. Lords of the Fallen 2 also remains on course for a 2026 release, though it still lacks an official title and launch date.
