PlayStation Plus subscribers will have to say goodbye to some of the service’s best games when the October update drops. Even though Sony has recently changed how it distributes games on the Extra and Premium tiers of PlayStation Plus, there is still usually one specific day each month when the new additions start rolling out.

The way PS Plus Extra and Premium work is that, in the middle of the month, the new additions are announced on a Wednesday, with the first batch added that following Tuesday. That Tuesday is also the same day that Sony removes some games from the PS Plus Extra and Premium library. Whereas the new games are added on different days of the month, the removals happen all at once. With that in mind, PlayStation Plus subscribers should brace themselves for the games that are leaving on October 20.

List of PS Plus Games Leaving in October

  • Death Squared
  • Gloomhaven
  • Harvest Moon: Light of Hope
  • Jurassic World Evolution 2
  • Lake
  • Rogue Lords
  • Silent Hill 2 (2024)
  • Yakuza: Like a Dragon

At the time of this writing, eight games are confirmed to be leaving PS Plus Extra and Premium on October 20. On that day, PlayStation Plus subscribers will lose access to Death Squared, Gloomhaven, Harvest Moon: Light of Hope, Jurassic World Evolution 2, Lake, Rogue Lords, the Silent Hill 2 remake, and Yakuza: Like a Dragon. It’s disappointing to see any of these games removed, but there are a couple of games in particular that are especially going to sting when they are given the boot from PS Plus.

The Silent Hill 2 remake from Bloober Team is by far the studio’s best game, and easily one of the better titles available through the PS Plus Extra and Premium library. The Silent Hill 2 remake earned critical acclaim for faithfully recreating the survival-horror classic’s best moments, but delivering them in a way that’s more digestible for modern audiences. With Halloween right around the corner, it’s an even bigger bummer that the Silent Hill 2 remake is getting removed from PS Plus, but hopefully there are some solid new additions in October to make up for it.

The other big game leaving PS Plus in October is Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Yakuza: Like a Dragon represents a dramatic new direction for the Yakuza franchise, trading the series’ tried-and-true beat ’em up combat for a hilarious turn-based combat system. Yakuza: Like a Dragon features an excellent cast of characters, a memorable story, and dozens of hours of worthwhile, engaging gameplay.

Unfortunately, we don’t know yet what new games might be added to PS Plus Extra and Premium in October that could possibly replace Silent Hill 2 remake and Yakuza: Like a Dragon, and we won’t know for some time. But we do know of some new games that are being added to PS Plus Extra in the more immediate future. Ball x Pit and Slitterhead are coming to PS Plus Extra on September 22, while Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, Dungeons of Hinterberg, and Sniper Elite: Resistance are all coming on September 29.
