PlayStation Plus subscribers should brace themselves, as the service is set to lose two open world masterpieces on the same day. The Extra and Premium tiers of PlayStation Plus are full of excellent games for fans to check out, but the downside is that these games are not available forever. Whereas PS Plus subscribers can keep anything they claim through the Essential tier indefinitely as long as they stay subscribed, games in the Extra and Premium libraries rotate in and out of availability.
On the bright side, that means that there are new PS Plus Extra and Premium games added on a regular basis. In fact, some games were just added to PS Plus Extra with the latest update. As of now, PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers are free to check out Mafia: The Old Country, Horizon Forbidden West, and Mycopunk with their subscriptions. Still, PS Plus will have a hard time filling the void that will be left by two of the games leaving on November 17.
GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 Are Leaving PS Plus
Unless plans change, it’s been confirmed that both Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 are leaving PS Plus on November 17. Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 are two of the highest-rated games ever made, with GTA 5 number 6 and RDR2 number 10. The two massive open world games earned all kinds of perfect scores and Game of the Year awards at the time of their respective launches, and together they have added serious value to PlayStation Plus. Unfortunately, PS Plus subscribers will have to say goodbye to both on November 17, and their departures come at a very interesting time.
It may be a coincidence, but it is odd that two of Rockstar’s biggest and most popular games are leaving PS Plus mere days before GTA 6 is set to launch. The Grand Theft Auto 6 release date is on November 19, two days after GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 are removed from PS Plus. Some might argue that this was timed to encourage PS Plus subscribers to buy the new Grand Theft Auto, but in reality, they likely don’t need encouragement. Anyone interested in GTA 6 and has the means to buy it almost certainly wouldn’t be stopped just because they could play GTA 5 and RDR2 through PS Plus.
It’s possible GTA 6 will eventually find itself a part of PS Plus one day down the road. After all, Rockstar’s biggest games have been made available on both PS Plus and Xbox Game Pass at various points over the years, and GTA 5 was even given away for free on the Epic Games Store. But if that happens, it would be years, if not over a decade, down the line. In the meantime, there are some upcoming PS Plus games for fans to look forward to, with Poppy Playtime: Chapter 2, Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn Edition, and Monster Energy Supercross 25 all coming on October 27.
After October 27, the next date that PS Plus subscribers will want to keep an eye on is Wednesday, October 28. That day is most likely when Sony is going to announce the free PS Plus games for November 2026, and it’s anyone’s guess as to what those will be.
