Ubisoft has not had much luck with live service gaming, including mobile spin-offs of some of its biggest franchises. The latest victim of these struggling efforts is Rainbow Six Mobile, a free-to-play tactical multiplayer shooter that the French publisher has been trying to get off the ground for years. It’s now shutting down next year after less than 12 months in full release.

“There’s no easy way to put it: we have made the difficult decision to sunset Rainbow Six Mobile,” the company posted on the game’s X account on October 8. “The game will remain available until January 15, 2027. The next season will be released as planned next week.”

Rainbow Six Mobile was first announced in 2022. It subsequently had a beta throughout 2023 that continued into 2024. The game was eventually delayed until 2025. That year it released in Latin America, one of the regions where Rainbow Six is most popular, before getting a global launch in February 23, 2026.

Despite millions of downloads on Android and iOS, Rainbow Six Mobile hasn’t stayed in people’s smartphone gaming rotations. “Overall, it’s a solid game, I just wish it was more similar to the actual console and PC version, with more operator choices and choosing where you/your team spawns instead of it being random,” wrote on reviewer on the Google Play Store. The free-to-play model was also criticized for locking operators behind paywalls and being too grindy.

Other Ubisoft mobile spin-offs like The Division Resurgence haven’t faired much better. The company even recently ported that looter shooter to PC where it’s been slammed as buggy, repetitive, and largely abandoned.
