In the Resident Evil 4 Remake, a new collectible called the Clockwork Castellan can unlock a powerful hidden weapon. These Castellans are small automaton toys of Ramon Salazar scattered across the Village, Castle, and Island. There is one in each chapter of the Resident Evil 4 Remake, making sixteen in total. To find them, players should rely on audio cues. A ticking clock sound plays whenever a Castellan is nearby, growing louder as the player gets closer.

Clockwork Castellan Locations and How to Find Them

Here’s where to find all 16 Clockwork Castellans:

Chapter 1: Lakeside Settlement

image showing where to find the first clockwork castellan.

The first Clockwork Castellan is on the cabin’s roof in Lakeside Settlement, where the player finds Luis Sera.

Chapter 2: Abandoned Factory

The second Clockwork Castellan is in the cabin north of the Abandoned Factory, where the player meets Resident Evil 4 Remake‘s Merchant for the first time.

Chapter 3: Quarry

To find the third Clockwork Castellan, the player should jump down the ladder inside the Merchant’s cabin in the Quarry and follow the ticking noise. (The toy is behind the box in the right corner.)

Chapter 4: Lakeside Settlement (Forest Altar)

After beating Resident Evil 4 Remake‘s lake monster, the player will need to ride the boat back to the Lakeside Settlement, where they can find the fourth Clockwork Castellan. It’s behind the fences at Forest Altar near the sacrificed girl’s body.

Chapter 5: Village Square (Chief’s Manor)

In Resident Evil 4 Remake‘s Chapter 5, when Leon and Ashley return to the Village, the player must head south of the Village Square into the Chief’s Manor. This is the house where Chief Mendez almost killed Leon. Inside the house, they should pull the lever behind the painting on the second floor to release the secret attic ladder. The fifth Clockwork Castellan is in the attic.

Chapter 6: North of Villa (Checkpoint)

There’s a bridge in Resident Evil 4 Remake‘s Chapter 6 that leads to an area called Checkpoint, where the Chainsaw Sisters attack Leon. The sixth Clockwork Castellan is sitting in front of the bonfire to the right of this bridge.

Chapter 7: Dungeons

After killing the Garrador in the dungeon, the player must climb the ladder behind the locked gate to find the seventh Clockwork Castellan on top of the shelf.

Chapter 8: Castle Battlements

On the Castle’s tower, when RE4 Remake‘s armored El Gigante throws rocks at Leon, the player should head toward the other building on the left. The eighth Clockwork Castellan is on the right flank before the boxes.

Chapter 9: Courtyard Maze

The ninth Clockwork Castellan is in the upper left dead end of the Courtyard Maze. After climbing the stairs, the player should skip the first entrance on the left and take the second one. Then, turn left on every corner until they find the castellan behind the abandoned table.

Chapter 10: Depths

The tunnel that connects Depths to the Merchant site is where the player finds the tenth Clockwork Castellan. The toy is inside the gated cavity in front of the Merchant’s cabin (hanging from the ceiling).

Chapter 11: Stopover

Stopover is where the minecart—the mine trolley—carrying Leon and Luis stops for the first time. There is a wrecked structure in this area, on top of which the player can find the eleventh Clockwork Castellan.

Chapter 12: Ballroom Leading to the Clock Tower

In Chapter 12, the player should ride the cable car north of the Ballroom to reach the Clock Tower, the building with a massive statue in the middle. This is where they destroy the twelfth Clockwork Castellan in the bottom left corner.

Chapter 13: Wharf

North of Wharf, there’s an open area with a few containers and cars. The thirteenth Clockwork Castellan is between the green forklift and the brown truck.

Chapter 14: Amber Storeroom

Across the gate next to the giant Amber in Chapter 14, the fourteenth Clockwork Castellan is in the resting room (on top of the closets) at the Campsite.

Chapter 15: Specimen Storage

The Specimen Storage area in Chapter 15 is the area filled with hanging body bags. The fifteenth Clockwork Castellan is in the storage room of this facility. The player has to shine a flashlight on the ceiling to find it.

Chapter 16: Underground Passage

Before getting on the jet ski in the final chapter, the player can destroy the sixteenth Clockwork Castellan in the Underground Passage. Like the one in Chapter 13, the last figure of Ramon Salazar is behind the green forklift.

How to Check Which Clockwork Castellans You’ve Unlocked

Players can track which Clockwork Castellans they’ve unlocked by opening the pause menu and selecting “Results.” From there, they can scroll through each chapter using the left and right toggles. If a Castellan has been collected in a chapter, a silver medallion resembling Ramon Salazar will appear next to that chapter’s title. (Thanks to MrDanUK on Reddit for this tip.)

What You Get for Smashing All Clockwork Castellans

Destroying all 16 Clockwork Castellans rewards players with Resident Evil 4 Remake‘s Primal Knife. This combat blade can later be upgraded into an unbreakable weapon. Completing the challenge also unlocks the Revolution Wind-Up trophy or Achievement.
