The executive producer of Resident Evil has discussed the game’s ongoing story, and expressed that it’s likely it will be concluded within a decade. This may come as a surprise to some fans, as the Resident Evil series has been going strong for years, and shows no signs of slowing down.
While there have been some rough spots in the series’ history, Resident Evil has been on a roll for years now. The series’ soft reboot with Resident Evil 7: Biohazard was a huge success, and since then, a steady stream of remakes and new entries have kept the series relevant and exciting for newcomers and long-time fans alike. However, that stream may have an ending sooner than some fans might like.
Resident Evil Producer Talks About The Series’ Ending
In a chat with Japanese publication Kyodo News, Resident Evil executive producer Jun Takeuchi talked about the series and touched on the notion of the story coming to an end within 10 years. Takeuchi explained that the Resident Evil 2 remake was the start of a 10-year branding concept, and that the release of Resident Evil Requiem has closed out those 10 years. Adding to that, he noted that he thinks the conclusion of the story will arrive within the next ten years. Whether that means the end of the Resident Evil franchise entirely, or a conclusion to the story of the original characters like Leon, Claire, Jill, and Chris, is unclear. However, he noted that the plan is to release multiple games during the next 10-year period, but he couldn’t share more without spoilers.
The promise of multiple games during the next ten years fits with prior reveals and leaks from Capcom. Capcom has expressed that it wants to release a new Resident Evil game every year, which includes the upcoming Resident Evil Veronica game. Rumors have indicated that Resident Evil Zero and the original game are also going to be remade. Resident Evil 5 and even 6 are also possibilities, which could potentially mean half of the coming 10 years could consist of remakes. However, it’d be best to take the rumored remakes with a grain of salt until Capcom shares an official confirmation or denial.

Drag weapons to fill the grid
Although the games have deviated and introduced new cast members on occasion, much of the Resident Evil series has followed the original core cast for all these years. With the original Raccoon City outbreak having occurred way back in 1998, the cast is now considerably older, so another soft reboot with a new crew might be a possibility. Given that a number of the original cast have also been infected with various viruses and parasites that have impacted their aging, though, it’s possible that some characters could plausibly stick around well into the future.
While gamers might have to say goodbye to the Resident Evil they’ve known, a decade is a long time. Even if plans don’t change and the original storyline concludes, if Capcom’s plan goes smoothly, there will be a ton of new Resident Evil games to dive into over the coming 10 years.
