Though it has been a long time coming for a new game in the series beyond Skyrim, The Elder Scrolls Online officially launches Return to Skyrim on November 9. The land of the Nord will undoubtedly remain one of the most cherished locations in the series due to its charming snowy mountains, and the fact that Skyrim has been out for almost exactly 15 years contributes to that. The Elder Scrolls Online is a different game, as it’s an MMO at its core, but it tells stories and explores places the way the series has for years.

Interestingly, rumors indicate that The Elder Scrolls 6‘s title will be revealed this November, specifically on the anniversary of Skyrim‘s release, which falls on November 11. If this is the case, there will be even more hype surrounding the next chapter in the series, though the game is still likely to come out in 2028 or later. The Elder Scrolls Online is well over a decade old now, but it too featured a major chapter dedicated to Skyrim and the Nord, and it’s now about to celebrate that with a new release.

As part of the official The Elder Scrolls: Echoes of Skyrim release, which is a major update for ESO centering on the Nord and the land of Skyrim, the game will now release Return to Skyrim on November 9. This is going to be a time-limited event where players can complete activities related to Skyrim and its ESO releases (the full Greymoor Chapter, the Wolfhunter DLC, and the Markarth DLC) in a Golden Pursuit campaign for free rewards and cosmetics. The event will run from November 9 to December 2, 2026, and it will likely involve some challenges tied to the newly released Solo Dungeons, including Moon Hunter Keep and March of Sacrifices. To honor Skyrim’s legacy, Greymoor, Wolfhunter, and Markarth will all be entirely free for players moving forward.

The Greymoor Chapter and the Wolfhunter DLC became free to play for all players on October 26, when the Echoes of Skyrim update launched. The Markarth DLC will become free for all on November 9, alongside the release of Return to Skyrim.

Find the odd one out before the timer hits zero.

ESO often tries to challenge the status quo of the series with new updates and releases, though it was hit significantly by the Xbox layoffs earlier this year. Still, The Elder Scrolls Online‘s Update 51 featured ship combat and underwater exploration, which is an interesting addition after previous games limited the experience for technical reasons. Next year, the game will see the release of a new Trial, a piece of multiplayer endgame content, that will feature mounted combat for the first time ever in the game and series.

For those looking for entirely new releases, instead, The Elder Scrolls: Valenwood is coming out soon, giving fans of the Bosmer (also known as Wood Elves) a big reason not to miss it. Of course, if the leaks are true, in just about ten days, there will also finally be more information about The Elder Scrolls 6.

The game was first teased at E3 in June 2018, so an official release date for The Elder Scrolls 6 alongside a title reveal and some more context could be an amazing way to celebrate Skyrim‘s 15th anniversary. It remains to be seen if this is indeed going to be the case, but at least ESO is also celebrating Skyrim‘s legacy in its own way.
