Riot Games has opened closed alpha test sign-ups for 2XKO, the fighting game based on the developer’s League of Legends franchise. Originally revealed as Project L, this League of Legends fighting game is one way of expanding the IP into other ventures. The game was first revealed in 2019, showing off a 2v2 tag-team-based fighting system, similar to the Marvel vs. Capcom series or Arc System Works’ Dragon Ball FighterZ or BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle. 2XKO features a number of familiar playable champions from League of Legends, like Ekko, Ahri, and Yasuo in its roster.

After a seemingly troubled production period, Riot Games re-revealed 2XKO with a gameplay trailer, which also contained a rough launch window of 2025. Riot Games executive producer Tom Cannon also teased fans about when they can finally play 2XKO for the first time, with one of the hands-on playtests of the game being held at the April Evo Japan 2024 event. Players were also promised at-home closed alpha tests by Cannon, which would be happening throughout the year. Sign-ups for these alpha tests are open now and will be running in August.

League of Legends Getting New Game Mode in July

Riot Games introduces a new game mode coming to League of Legends in July, seeing the return of some fan favorite skins to the game.

In a new update video with executive producer Tom Cannon, 2XKO director Shaun Rivera, and Sajam, the three discuss the game’s upcoming alpha test and what to expect. According to Cannon, this will be an online exclusive playtest, with no offline play in this version. This demo will contain an early version of 2XKO‘s tag-based fighting gameplay, with this test giving the players the chance to communicate and give feedback on the game directly to the developers to further refine the game as it’s being developed. Sign-ups for 2XKO‘s alpha playtest are open now, with it running from August 8-19, 2024. The playtest will also only be available in certain regions.
