Roblox has officially launched a native PlayStation 5 app, pledging a better gameplay experience for fans. Over the years, Roblox has undergone several changes and faced various controversies, yet it remains one of the most popular game platforms. Developer Roblox Corporation has announced some major updates and new features in recent months. Now, another exciting upgrade is available for PS5 players.
Originally launched in 2006, Roblox has become one of the biggest gaming platforms of all time with millions of daily active players. It was initially only available on PC, but has since jumped to mobile devices and consoles. In 2015, Roblox debuted on Xbox One, and later on Xbox Series X/S with backward compatibility. It wasn’t until eight years later, in October 2023, that Roblox was also launched on PS4 and had legacy support for PS5. A new era has begun for Roblox and PlayStation, though, as the platform releases a native PS5 app.

Roblox Launches Native PlayStation 5 App
As confirmed by PlayStationBlog and Roblox Corporation, Roblox now has a native version for PS5 consoles. The upgrade ensures “smoother and more responsive” gameplay, reaching 30% faster load times. To commemorate the launch, the developer spoke with the creators of some of Roblox‘s most popular titles about what the native PS5 app meant for development. The team at Voldex, the studio behind NFL Universe Football, said that the upgrade will let it add new content to the game and enhance visuals without hitting performance limits. The creators of the Roblox horror game Scary Shawarma Kiosk, kharbor_ykt and Graizorko, also stated that the native PS5 launch could guarantee a more enveloping experience. “The atmosphere comes through much more clearly on more powerful hardware,” they said.
Roblox Corporation also emphasized that Roblox‘s native PS5 app would allow developers to explore new layers of immersion using the DualSense Controller’s haptic features. It also stated that the upgraded version could highlight how Roblox has evolved in recent years, potentially attracting new PS5 players. In 2025, Roblox was among the most played games on PlayStation and Xbox consoles. A native PS5 version is arguably a step in the right direction to maintain the platform’s popularity.
Roblox‘s native PS5 version comes soon after the platform announced some important updates. Earlier in April, Roblox added new makeup features to give players more customization options. The platform has also confirmed the launch of Roblox Plus, its upcoming monthly subscription system. For $4.99, fans can have access to in-game discounts on items and avatars, and other exclusive benefits. Roblox Plus is set to launch on April 30.

Roblox is approaching its 20th anniversary, but the platform has not been exempt from criticism related to its child-safety measures. In response to consumer feedback, Roblox recently revealed Roblox Kids and Roblox Select, a new age-based account system expected for June 2026. The update will filter mature games for users depending on their age, and players aged 5 to 8 will have communication disabled altogether. Once users turn 16 years old, they will have access to a regular Roblox account. Whether these measures will meet players’ expectations remains to be seen.
