A Roblox player found a way to preserve classic face designs as the platform is getting rid of them. Since its debut in 2006, Roblox has gained immense popularity among gamers worldwide as both an online gaming platform and a game creation system, reporting an average of 85.3 million daily active users in February last year. To maintain high interest among players, developers at Roblox Corporation regularly introduce a variety of updates to their platform in order to incorporate new technological capabilities and enhance the overall experience. That being said, some of the changes introduced over the years by the company have sparked controversy among Roblox‘s fans and creators, who have strongly voiced their criticism online.

The latest change announced by Roblox Corporation in January this year also did not go unnoticed by the community. As part of the upcoming update, Roblox is replacing static head designs with new dynamic heads with animations. It appears that users who create classic heads and then sell them as assets have approximately five weeks from the announcement to adapt them to the requirements of dynamic projects; otherwise, their works will be removed from sale on March 3. The changes also seem to affect regular players, who will lose their static heads if they are not updated by June 15.

Roblox Player Took Action to Preserve Classic Faces

One Roblox player decided to take matters into his own hands and ensure the continued existence of the static heads. On the platform’s subreddit, a user named firechaos70 showed one of the games created on Roblox, in which they placed an archive of classic faces. According to the player, their project allows original heads to be stored and tried out by others. At the time of this writing, over 100 users have visited the subpage of the game, which was created on February 7 and then updated on February 11.

The post received many comments from other users of this online gaming platform, most of whom praised the initiative for preserving the Roblox feature that brings back nostalgia. Ideas were even proposed for further development and improvement of the archive by introducing a search mechanism that would allow players to find the faces of their choice. Although the gamer’s efforts were well received, some participants in the discussion expressed concerns that the game might soon be taken down by Roblox. In their opinion, putting back classic faces in the form of a game “is like adding something that they wanted to remove,” so developers could consider it a violation of the rules.

In the past, Roblox fans have been dissatisfied with changes similar to those discussed here. However, in this case, the planned removal of static head designs is more than just a cosmetic update. Creators who earn money from creating these assets emphasize that, in the face of a shift to dynamic projects, they may lose their only source of income. In addition, players expressed concerns about losing items from their inventory that they had paid for with Robux, leaving them uncertain whether the assets they had purchased in the past would be irretrievably lost.

While the community expressed its opinions on the matter, the developers of Roblox responded to the feedback they received from the fans. In an official statement published on February 4, Roblox Corporation assured that it is not deprecating the original incarnation of avatars, which will persist even as the platform evolves on top of it. Roblox‘s developers also emphasized that they will continue building a unified avatar system that supports increasing levels of expression, but the classic faces and user inventory will be kept intact. As the deadlines for making final changes are slowly approaching, the community will soon have the opportunity to see how these assurances will be implemented in practice.
