This morning, IGN posted a lengthy interview with Rockstar about Grand Theft Auto 6, and while I’m sure there was a lot of valuable information in there for people who are excited about next month’s open-world crime drama, I was laser-focused on one particular anecdote from the preview, and now I’m just trying to find out if Jason, the dumb-as-rocks hunk of the game’s crime-committing couple, shows hog or not, and I spent the better part of today dragging my coworkers into helping me find out.

IGN’s interview with Rockstar Head of Development and Co-Studio Head Rob Nelson makes mention of a point during their demo when they shifted from other playable character Lucia’s perspective to that of Jason, and when you do this, the other character might be in the middle of doing something like walking around, or, in this case, taking a shower. IGN’s Rachel Weber notes that the game does, in fact, show that Jason is completely naked, but her written recollection of this is surprisingly vague.

“[At this point Nelson switches to Jason’s POV, where our hero is… naked.]”

Naked can mean a lot of things, but she notes that Jason was in the shower when the demo switched over to him, so one would assume he was in his birthday suit. We get no indication as to whether or not the game obscures anything below the waist, but we know from the extensive GTA6 leaks that the game does, in fact, have full frontal nudity. What we don’t know, however, is if that extends to the playable characters.

When news of this started to circulate, I was on a train headed to a preview event (check out my Final Fantasy VII Revelation thoughts at 9 a.m. tomorrow morning here at Kotaku), so I couldn’t do much to look into this on my end. So I conscripted my coworkers. Rebekah Valentine, who previously worked at IGN, reached out to her former colleague to ask for the gory details only to find that Weber is on vacation. (And no, we’re not going to interrupt that for something this dumb.) Zack Zwiezen, our resident Grand Theft Auto head, reached out to Rockstar for clarification, but hasn’t heard back. Reb, then, went the extra mile to call Kinda Funny’s Greg Miller, who answered her call during one of the channel’s livestreams, to ask them if they could give us any specifics on Jason’s elusive penis from when they also visited Rockstar, only for us to find that when they saw the game, it was apparently a different demo than the one Weber saw, as they saw no naked Jason whatsoever.

You can check out the segment where Reb asks this question “for a friend” (it’s me) at the 33:40 mark here:

While the specifics are vague, that hasn’t stopped GTA fans from running with it online, whether as a joke or by just extrapolating and circulating the information we do have. To answer the question of whether or not Jason shows hog in Grand Theft Auto 6, the answer is that we still don’t know, but I would like to. Rockstar, just send someone outside your office to give me a thumbs-up or -down and walk back in. Or just, you know, respond to our request for comment. Don’t make me wait until the game launches on November 19.
