Rumor: Highly Anticipated Xbox Exclusive Could Also Be Coming to PS5

A new report claims Microsoft is internally considering bringing Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 to PlayStation 5. The company announced earlier in the year that it will launch four first-party games from its back catalog on competitor platforms PlayStation and Nintendo, leading many to wonder if it plans to port more titles. As it seems, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 could be a future multiplatform Xbox release.

Developed by Ninja Theory, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 is less than two weeks away from its official launch on May 21 across Xbox Series X/S and PC, as well as on the Game Pass subscription service. However, after Xbox shuttered four Bethesda studios recently, several reports from credible outlets poured in about the company going through a turbulent phase internally, with debates regarding Game Pass Ultimate price increases and whether new Call of Duty titles should be released onto the service on day one.

Amid the reports about the business side of Xbox, The Verge has claimed that Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 is being considered for a PS5 release by Microsoft. It’s unclear when, or even if, it may come to fruition, but it rings true with a separate rumor back in February from another insider who reckoned Hellblade 2 could eventually make its way to PS5 in the future. The anticipated title will launch seven years after its predecessor, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, which was available on PlayStation 4, so it tracks that the sequel could be launched on PS5 eventually.

At Microsoft’s recent Q3 2024 earnings call, CEO Satya Nadella remarked on the success of the initial batch of four multiplatform games, stating that the company had seven games among the top 25 on the PlayStation Store, outnumbering other publishers. Prior to this, Sea of Thieves preorders dominated the PlayStation Store for a few weeks, even outselling some of Sony’s first-party titles like MLB The Show 24. With this newfound multiplatform success, it comes as no surprise that Microsoft would want to expand on the strategy further.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 is also a high-caliber, third-person, action-adventure game that promises a riveting story, so it could find favor among the PlayStation user base, owing to the company’s own first-party games that broadly offer the same things. However, with the Ninja Theory sequel yet to launch on Xbox platforms, it might take a long time for Hellblade 2 to show up on PS5, and that’s if Microsoft decides to proceed with porting it at all. The report is unconfirmed for now, but Microsoft may detail its future multiplatform plans and whether Hellblade 2 fits into them after the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase on June 9, .
