AlexandreNGamR, the same user who initially leaked an upcoming PlayStation State of Play, has now claimed that an upcoming Metro game should be announced next week. The Metro games are some of the most well-received first-person shooters in recent memory. Initially adapted from a book series, the games are praised for their world-building and immersion, strong narrative focus, and blending of action with horror elements. The series’ last mainline entry was Metro Exodus all the way back in 2019.

Fans have wanted a new installment in the series for years, with the current gaming hardware being ideal for the boundary-pushing nature of the franchise. With the spin-off Metro Awakening winning best VR game at the 2024 Steam Awards, the public’s love for the post-apocalyptic games is clearly not going anywhere anytime soon, leaving now perhaps the best time for a new entry. Luckily for fans of the series, this new game may be arriving sooner than expected.

New Metro Game Rumored For Announcement Next Week

In a post by AlexandreNGamR on Twitter, the leaker stated that a new Metro game should be announced next week. This user previously stated that a PlayStation State of Play was set for April 16. This State of Play claim was seconded by the trusted leaker Nate the Hate, responsible for the huge 2026 Nintendo rumors, giving AlexandreNGamR more credibility. While this could’ve been down to luck or simply a one-off, fans remain hopeful that there is at least some truth to the Metro leak.

Fans think a new installment in the Metro series would be great for a number of reasons. Next-generation hardware is perfect for Metro‘s signature immersion and world-building, and with improvements to lighting in games, the horror elements would likely be more effective. Advancements in enemy AI would leave room for more complex combat, with weapons hopefully expanding the existing upgrade systems.

A narrative for this potential new Metro entry is currently unknown, and with Metro Exodus wrapping up the gripping story of Artyom, it would likely be with new characters. Perhaps it will take the same approach as Metro Awakening, serving as a standalone story, or better yet, it could be the start to a new trilogy.

No matter how convincing they seem, leaks such as this Metro one should always be taken with a grain of salt until officially announced. There are many reasons why they could be inaccurate, whether it’s outdated news, unreliable sources, or simply a mistake. If this rumor is true, fans of the series have plenty to be excited about, with modern hardware and improvements in gaming leaving a new Metro game perfect for pushing boundaries.
