Leaker Nate the Hate has stated the next Star Fox game will be announced for Nintendo Switch 2 before the end of April, either through the Nintendo Today app or on Twitter. The last new entry in the series was released on Wii U in 2016, and fans have been waiting 10 long years for a new Star Fox game. While Fox McCloud and the rest of his crew appeared in the Switch version of Starlink: Battle for Atlas, a dedicated franchise game was not released within the system’s lifespan.
Star Fox has largely disappeared over the last 10 years, but things have been looking up for fans of the series. Fox McCloud appeared in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, where the character was voiced by actor Glen Powell. The movie featured cameos by other Nintendo favorites, but Fox played a significant role. With the biggest spotlight Star Fox has had in decades, it seems Nintendo is preparing to bring the franchise back in a big way.

Star Fox on Nintendo Switch 2
Last month, leaker Nate the Hate shared rumors about a new Star Fox game coming to Nintendo Switch 2. That rumor has not been confirmed just yet, but Nate the Hate claims fans won’t have to wait much longer for word from Nintendo. In a post on Twitter, Nate the Hate stated that the game will be announced before the end of April. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean fans should expect to see a Nintendo Direct anytime soon; apparently, the announcement will be made on either Twitter, or through a post on the Nintendo Today app.
The new Star Fox game will apparently be released this summer, so it makes sense that an announcement would have to happen soon. Former public relations manager Kit Ellis suggested that Nintendo is “absolutely furious” about the Star Fox leak, as well as the leak of a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Nintendo has always liked to have secrecy around its announcements, as they allow the company to shape the narrative. When leaks happen ahead of time, it makes it much harder to influence reactions through officially released trailers and screenshots.
After so many years without a new Star Fox game, fans are eager to see if the wait will be worth it. Like Star Fox, Donkey Kong mostly skipped over the Switch era, with a handful of remasters and re-releases on the system, but nothing in terms of a new game. Nintendo rectified that last year, as Donkey Kong Bananza proved to be one of Nintendo Switch 2’s first must-own games. It remains to be seen whether Star Fox will get an equally impressive game on the new system, but fans are excited to find out what’s in store.

Most of Nintendo’s 2026 plans are shrouded in secrecy at the moment. Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream will release on the original Switch this month, while Yoshi and the Mysterious Book is slated for Switch 2 in May. No other Nintendo-published games currently have a release date, though Splatoon Raiders, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, and Rhythm Heaven Groove are currently set to be released before the end of the year. Star Fox and a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time would certainly bolster that release schedule, but fans have to wait a little bit longer to see if the games end up being confirmed.
