Rumor: One of 2022’s Highest-Rated FPS Games Could Finally Be Coming to Xbox

Neon White, the 2022 first-person shooter from publisher Annapurna Interactive and independent developer Angel Matrix, may finally land on Xbox consoles in the near future, according to a new leak. This fast-paced FPS was incredibly well-received by critics and gamers alike upon its initial release, so it’s definitely a game that Xbox fans should keep an eye out for when it does come to their preferred platform at some point.

Neon White is a first-person shooter that was released in June 2022 for the Nintendo Switch and PC, with a subsequent launch on PS4 and PS5 later that year. Boasting a rather eclectic mix of genres, the game combined trigger-happy gunplay with speedrunning-focused, puzzle-platforming elements and inventive card-based combat mechanics. These varied gameplay elements worked surprisingly well together, so much so, in fact, that Neon White ended up becoming one of the highest-rated games of 2022. The title received such high acclaim that some even considered Neon White a Game of the Year contender, up there with juggernauts like Elden Ring and God of War Ragnarok.

Unfortunately, not every player has had the opportunity to play Angel Matrix’s critically lauded shooter on their platform of choice, as the game has yet to be released on Xbox. Fortunately, this could change in the immediate future, as, according to a post on the r/GamingLeaksAndRumors subreddit by Reddit user AlilBitTall, achievements for Neon White have gone live on the TrueAchievements website. Typically, achievement lists for upcoming Xbox games don’t become available until they’re close to release, so this likely indicates that Neon White‘s belated launch on Xbox isn’t too far away.

Neon White coming to Xbox isn’t actually new information, as Microsoft had previously revealed that the game would launch on its consoles back in June 2023. At the time, the company also announced that the hit first-person shooter would release on Xbox Game Pass day-one alongside its arrival on Xbox. This came as somewhat of a surprise, considering the fact that Annapurna Interactive had denied rumors of Neon White coming to Game Pass only a few months prior. Although PlayStation, Nintendo, and PC gamers have been able to play Angel Matrix’s debut title for around two or so years at this point, the shooter’s launch on Game Pass may at least make up for its delayed release on Microsoft’s consoles.

Though it’s still best to keep expectations in check regarding its release, it’s possible that Neon White could end up being one of July 2024’s day-one Game Pass games, alongside the likes of titles like Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn, Frostpunk 2, and Dungeons of Hinterberg. If so, then July might turn out to be a really solid month for Xbox’s subscription service overall, especially for those interested in unique indie games.
