The next entry in the God of War series could be revealed this month, according to some recent rumors making the rounds on social media. Although Sony and Santa Monica Studio are already developing God of War Trilogy Remake, the rumors focused on an unannounced God of War project that may be shown off soon.

News of the rumored God of War game reveal came amid a busy time for PlayStation’s hit franchise. Immediately following the February 12 State of Play broadcast, Sony shocked God of War fans by shadow-dropping God of War: Sons of Sparta, a Metroidvania prequel to the entire series. God of War: Sons of Sparta chronicles the trials of a young Kratos as he grows into a feared Spartan warrior. Despite mixed reviews, God of War: Sons of Sparta was a hit for Sony, as it was one of the top 20 best-selling games in the US in February.

PS5 PlayStation Store Is Getting Some Big Changes

Sony is reportedly testing the largest PlayStation Store overhaul in over half a decade, which is now live for some PS5 users.

The Future of God of War Could Be Revealed Soon

Though all rumors about the future of the God of War series should be taken with a fine grain of salt, the Ghost of Sparta could soon make a return to the spotlight. During the April 10 episode of the Insider Gaming Weekly podcast, show host Tom Henderson stated that he heard the next mainline God of War title is due to be announced sometime in April. Though details about the next God of War game have not officially been revealed, the project is not to be confused with the God of War Trilogy Remake, which was confirmed during the February 12 State of Play. The original voice actor for Kratos, Terrence “T.C.” Carson, stated that he was reprising his role as the Ghost of Sparta for the upcoming remake, though Carson stated that God of War Trilogy Remake was in early development. Ergo, fans should not expect God of War Trilogy Remake to be shown off anytime soon.

The rumors about God of War‘s future lined up with a statement from known industry insider NateTheHate about Sony’s potential plans. NateTheHate said that an unconfirmed date for the next State of Play is Thursday, April 16, but placed heavy emphasis on it being an unconfirmed date. Ergo, it is possible that the next God of War game could make an appearance during a potential April State of Play episode. As of this writing, Sony has not revealed when its next State of Play will air, so fans must wait for more information.

PlayStation Fans Still Have Plenty To Be Excited About

Alongside the rumors of a possible God of War game reveal, the State of Play could also be the next opportunity for an upcoming PS5-exclusive title to be shown off. Insomniac Games previously stated that it would share more details about its next title, Marvel’s Wolverine, sometime in the spring of 2026. Marvel’s Wolverine will be released on September 15, so Insomniac Games still has a few months to reveal more details about the superhero title.
