A new, user-created challenge in The Sims 4 puts a new spin on mermaids, turning them into vicious and alluring sirens of the deep. Mermaids aren’t typically one of the most popular of The Sims 4‘s Occult Sim variants, but this fresh, chaos-filled challenge could have players looking at them in a new, dreadful way.

Mermaids were first introduced as part of The Sims 4‘s Island Living expansion, which was first released in 2019. Set in the tropical neighborhood of Sulani, Island Living introduced a bunch of features that The Sims 4 players would expect from a full DLC, including new careers, Create-a-Sim options, an aspiration, and traits for both Sims and lots. But it’s probably best remembered for the first appearance of mermaids, Sims who appear normal while on land but who become mythological aquatic beings when submerged in water, and who can unleash a number of magical abilities by expending their unique thirst meter.

Best Sims 4 Storyline Ideas

Even with all of its possibilities, fans may find themselves out of ideas for a new story in The Sims 4 – these storylines will help liven things up.

New Sims 4 Challenge Makes Mermaids Terrifying

A newly released challenge put forth by one dedicated fan asks players to reconsider using mermaids’ powers for nefarious purposes, posting a list of mischievous tasks they must complete to behave like the murderous sirens of lore. As put forth on Reddit by user doveevob, players participating in the Little Siren Challenge will need to create a Sims 4 mermaid in a very specific way. On the creation screen, these Sims should be given the Romantic, Child of the Ocean, and Evil traits, and their starting career should be as a singer. Starting with 20,000 Simoleans, their starting home should be placed next to the ocean in Sulani, giving them easy access to the water and the right behaviors and motivations for luring men to their doom.

After creation, the challenge truly begins, as players will need to complete three different Sims 4 aspiration tracks, all of which can be found as part of the free-to-play base game. Players will need to max out the challenges under Public Enemy, Chief of Mischief, and Villainous Valentine, which will require them to pull off a variety of pranks, perform voodoo, get into physical fights, break hearts, end relationships between other Sims, and even witness death. But as sirens are fickle beings, the challenges don’t stop there, as they’ll also need to complete several specific tasks, including having at least 10 declared enemies, maxed-out romance bars, and collecting a minimum of 15 urns, reflecting the mythological creatures’ penchant for allure and leading sailors to their deaths.

Completing these missions won’t be as simple as carrying out these tasks any way players choose, as the rules dictate they’ll have to follow a specific set of restrictions marking them as true sirens. Players will only be able to earn money in The Sims 4 through stealing, bribery, borrowing it, diving for treasure, or singing, which makes the additional task of earning rank 10 in the singing, mischief, and charisma skills all the more important. They’ll also need to pick up some related traits along the way, and earning perks like Great Kisser, Beguiling, Shameless, Tormentor, and Mastermind will both help them achieve their goals and fit into the lore of the mythological creatures.

A lot of Sims 4 players seem pretty enamored with the idea of the Little Siren Challenge, which gives new life to the Island Living expansion more than six years after its initial release. For players who want to put an even greater spin on the challenge while incorporating some more modern content, there are even a couple of optional tasks they can undertake to complete the siren theme, including mastering the Master of Grudges aspiration recently released through the free Lost Legacies event and the Blast from the Past aspiration introduced through a limited-time quest line in February 2025.
