A handy new cheat sheet made by a fan of The Sims 4 showcases all the different ways that Sims can die, giving players a lot of options for creative deaths or just getting rid of the excess population of their neighborhoods. With all the content unlocked, there are close to 40 different ways that Sims can potentially die in The Sims 4, as well as some handy ways to avoid most of those deaths.

Death has been a part of The Sims franchise since its earliest days, but it wasn’t always so easy to achieve. Unlike the various life stages in later The Sims entries, the original game from 2000 only featured infants, children, and adults, with death from old age not being part of the gameplay formula. Getting rid of Sims in the old days usually meant building a room with no door or refrigerator, removing the swimming pool ladder, or, for those with the right expansion packs, putting on an indoor fireworks show.

Death comes a lot more easily to Sims nowadays, and one fan has drawn up a handy chart for players looking to achieve or avoid some of the more unusual ends that Sims can meet. As shared on Reddit by user fluffhq, there are currently a total of 37 ways Sims can die in The Sims 4, including 11 that don’t require the purchase of any expansion packs. Among these causes of death in the base game are the series standards of starvation, drowning, electrocution, and burning, as well as old age, overexertion, falling meteors, hungry cowplants, and three types of emotional overload.

But fans who have only played the base game content may be surprised at how many additional ways to die there are spread throughout The Sims 4‘s expansion packs. The deadliest expansion by far is Seasons, which offers up four different ways Sims can be offed, whether it be through accidental means like lightning strikes or overexposure to heat or cold, or by elders receiving a bouquet with a Death Flower included. Four different packs come equipped with two new ways to die, including being too mean to Cottage Living’s adorable rabbits and chickens, and Snowy Escape’s odd pairing of falling off a rock climbing wall or being crushed by a malfunctioning vending machine. Surprisingly, Life & Death, The Sims 4‘s 2024 expansion built around themes of funerals, bequeathments, and fun ghostly activities, only offers one unique form of death, which can be achieved by neglecting or provoking a pet crow.

Some of these expansion-specific deaths don’t even apply to the general population of most neighborhoods, only affecting occult Sims in The Sims 4. These include vampires staying out in sunlight after expending all their vampiric energy, fairies depleting their emotional force, and spellcasters continuing to use magic after overcharging themselves, causing them to burst forth with energy, levitate into the air, and fall to the ground as a charred husk. Additionally, while they’re not technically alive and will function eternally if maintained properly, the Discover University expansion’s robotic Servos will suffer catastrophic meltdown if their durability bottoms out.

The cheat sheet also provides handy tips on how ghosts in The Sims 4 will behave based on how they died. Some of the more amusing ghosts are the ones who were killed by animals, who may wear hamster pajamas or may sprout the head of their killer from inside their ethereal bodies. Meanwhile, while witnessing bizarre Sim deaths can be darkly humorous, players may want to keep their favorite Sims away from certain dangerous ghosts, who can spread deadly mold, summon flames or lightning strikes, or leave nearby living Sims chilled or overheated, making others potentially share in their untimely ends.
