- Krysten Ritter’s role in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 remains unverified, but a recent insider rumor suggests she may play a human character named Captain Rockwell.
- Fans have expressed mixed responses to the rumor, with some excited about seeing Ritter in another live-action role, while others were disappointed by the addition of another human character.

The Sonic the Hedgehog 3 cast is set to include Jessica Jones star Krysten Ritter, but a recent insider rumor conflicts with previous speculation and suggests she may not play an animated character after all.
Heralded as one of the better video game movie adaptations, Sega’s Sonic The Hedgehog film franchise found major success at the box office. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 persevered during the actors’ strike and comes highly anticipated, especially after a recent casting announcement. Returning cast members Jim Carrey, Ben Schwartz, and Idris Elba will be joined by Ritter, Alyla Browne, James Wolk and Sofia Pernas, Cristo Fernández, and Jorma Taccone.

Although Ritter’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3 role remains unverified, a new rumor from insider Daniel Richtman claims she will portray a human character named Captain Rockwell. Not much is known about the role, but several fans have suggested Rockwell will be a GUN (Guardian Units of Nations) operative, potentially leading an international military defense team. However, Richtman’s rumor also conflicts with previous speculation from IGN that Ritter would voice the animated fan-favorite jewel thief Rouge the Bat rather than a live-action character and was met with mixed responses from fans.
On one hand, many fans of Ritter expressed excitement about seeing her in another live-action role, but others were disappointed by the addition of another human. “Welp there goes the dream she’s playing Rouge The Bat,” said one fan in response to Richtman’s post, the sentiment of which was shared by several other commenters. Many even wondered if Shadow the Hedgehog would be the only new game character to appear in Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
Although the Shadow character has been confirmed, the voice actor remains a mystery, with credible sources remaining silent on the matter. There is a good chance the role of the amnesiac hedgehog will go to one of the newcomers, whose Sonic the Hedgehog 3 roles are also still under wraps, aside from Browne, who may voice Maria from Sonic Adventure 2. It’s also possible the Shadow casting announcement will name a different actor altogether. Given that several early casting rumors will likely be debunked, it’s best to take all speculation with a grain of salt until official announcements are made.
In the meantime, Sonic fans can enjoy the lead-up to the Knuckles spin-off series starring Elba, Kid Cudi, Adam Pally, and Colleen O’Shaughnessey. The six-episode limited series, part of the official Sonic Cinematic Universe, will premiere on Paramount Plus this spring and hopefully hold fans over until more Sonic 3 information is confirmed.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will release in theaters on December 20, 2024.
