Square Enix has issued an official warning to Final Fantasy 14 players after multiple Square Enix accounts were breached by an unknown third party. The company has shared some details and issued advice on what Final Fantasy 14 players can do to mitigate the risk of it happening to them, and what to do if they’re impacted.

Square Enix Reveals Unauthorized Account Access

An official statement has revealed to Final Fantasy 14 players that Square Enix accounts have reportedly been breached. According to the developer, the accounts were likely accessed by third parties utilizing “a combination of email addresses and passwords” that were taken from other companies or sites. Judging by the wording, the data was likely taken from repositories of stolen account names and passwords from other sites, and the impacted users had utilized the same or similar credentials for their Square Enix accounts. No indication was given that Square Enix experienced a hack or breach itself. The developer is currently restricting access to accounts that appear to be included in the breach, with information sent to the impacted account owners on how to reset their passwords. Anyone who finds that they can’t login with their usual credentials should check their connected email accounts, or reach out to Square Enix support.
