Well-known Star Wars voice actor Tom Kane has died at age 64. Along with being a key voice behind the Star Wars: The Clone Wars show, Tom Kane has voiced a plethora of video game characters over the years, including Call of Duty‘s Takeo Masaki.
Tom Kane’s acting career began in 1977, when he was just 15 years old. Over the last almost 50 years, Kane has become a defining figure in the world of voice acting, with him lending his talents to a vast array of popular franchises that include Star Wars, Marvel, Warhammer, Call of Duty, Scooby-Doo, Shrek, Star Trek, The Lord of the Rings, and many, many more.

Tom Kane, The Voice of Yoda, Has Died at Age 64
On May 18, Galactic Productions announced via a social media post that Tom Kane had died. In its memorial post, Galactic Productions writes:
“From his unforgettable performances in Star Wars to countless animated series, documentaries, and games, Tom brought wisdom, strength, humor, and heart to every role he touched. His voice became part of our lives, our memories, and the stories we carry with us. But beyond the incredible career was an extraordinary man. Tom was a devoted husband and father who, alongside his wife, built a loving family of nine children.”

Tom Kane is undoubtedly best known for his work as the voice of Yoda in an assortment of Star Wars media. He first played the role of the centuries-old Jedi Master in 2000’s Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles, and continued to play the character for the next two decades, appearing in over 20 other Star Wars video game projects such as Star Wars: Republic Commando, Star Wars: Episode 3 – Revenge of the Sith, and both versions of Star Wars Battlefront 2. Of course, Tom Kane also voiced Yoda in both iterations of the animated Clone Wars shows. Kane also voiced Admiral Yularen, who appeared in multiple Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels episodes and also acts as the iconic narrator of the former show.
Even outside of Yoda, Tom Kane had deep connections to the Star Wars franchise. One of Kane’s first credited video game roles was as Leebo in the PC version of Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire. While the actor voiced Yoda in around 20 Star Wars video games, he’s been a part of almost 50 during the course of his career, with his final one being 2022’s LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. This was actually Kane’s last performance overall, with the actor officially retiring from his profession in September 2021 following a stroke the year prior.

In the wider world of gaming, Tom Kane is likely best known for his work as Call of Duty‘s Takeo Masaki, a character that debuted in 2009’s Call of Duty: World at War. Kane continued to provide the voice of Takeo right up until Call of Duty: Black Ops 4‘s release in 2018. On top of Call of Duty, Kane has often voiced Magneto in a range of Marvel video games, such as Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, and has even dipped his toes into the realm of DC, voicing Jim Gordon in both Batman: Arkham Asylum and LEGO DC Super-Villains.
