Besides farming and raising animals, Stardew Valley also lets players build romantic relationships with certain NPCs in the game and eventually marry them. With 12 eligible marriage candidates available, players have the freedom to choose their preferred partner and begin a journey of love and companionship.

Before you can get married in Stardew Valley, you need to earn at least 10 Friendship Hearts with your intended partner. This can be done by talking to them daily, giving them gifts they like, and completing quests or tasks for them. Once you get married, your spouse will move into the farmhouse and become an important part of your daily life.

Stardew Valley is an awesome game that runs in a seasonal format – here’s what players should do in their first year.

What is The Honeymoon Period

marriage ceremony taking place in Stardew Valley.

Marriage has many practical benefits in Stardew Valley, as a happy spouse can help you with everyday chores around the farm, like watering crops and feeding animals. They might even make you breakfast or occasionally redecorate the farmhouse with new furniture or change the wallpaper and flooring.

After marriage, spouses gain additional hearts, increasing the total to 14 Friendship Hearts instead of the initial 10. As such, this often results in a glitch where newlyweds spend the first week of their marriage feeling sad and sulking in bed.

To remedy this, Stardew Valley’s developer Eric Barone has introduced a “Honeymoon Period” in Update 1.6. This honeymoon period lasts for the first seven days after marriage and prevents your significant other from falling into depression and laying in bed all day. It is the perfect opportunity to keep the spark of romance alive and spend some quality time with your spouse.

If your spouse is not being treated well, they can quickly become unhappy, which results in undesirable actions, like saying irritating things and refusing to help out with chores. By putting in the effort during the honeymoon period, you’ll lay a strong foundation for a happy and fulfilling marriage in Stardew Valley.

While the honeymoon period is a nice perk, you’ll still need to nurture your relationship with your spouse throughout the years to have a happy marriage.

In addition to all these quality-of-life improvements and bug fixes, Stardew Valley’s Update 1.6 brings a wave of exciting new content for veteran players and newcomers alike, such as a new farm type and two new mini-festivals.
