Steam-exclusive farming sim Halcyon Days at Taoyuan is giving away its first DLC for a limited time. Called the Galloping Horse Pack, the add-on is free to claim on Steam until February 24.
Halcyon Days at Taoyuan is a Stardew Valley-like pixel-art farming sim set in ancient China. Developed by Chinese studio BotanX, it was released as a Steam exclusive on January 20. The Unity-powered game peaked at just under 2,600 concurrent players five days after its debut.
Epic Games Store Reveals 2 Freebies for February 19
The Epic Games Store officially announces its February 19 giveaway, while allowing PC gamers to claim two freebies in the meantime.
Halcyon Days at Taoyuan Launches DLC Pack That’s Free for a Limited Time
On February 12, Halcyon Days at Taoyuan received its first DLC in the form of the Galloping Horse Pack. While envisioned as a premium addition to the game, BotanX is currently giving it away. The add-on can be claimed until February 24 at 10 a.m. PST / 1 p.m. EST / 7 p.m. CET. As is customary for DLC giveaways on Steam, there is no way to take advantage of this offer without already owning the base game. The Galloping Horse Pack will be priced at $1.99 once its limited-time free period is over.

Halcyon Days at Taoyuan is currently retailing at its full price of $11.99, placing it among the more affordable Stardew Valley-like games on Valve’s storefront. It was previously offered at a 10% launch discount, which ended on February 2. Although it is likely to be discounted again in the future, the short-lived nature of the Galloping Horse Pack giveaway suggests the DLC may no longer be free by the time the next such promotion takes place.
In terms of what’s actually on offer here, the Galloping Horse Pack comprises a dozen items, largely furniture pieces such as a new double bed, a wooden window, and three paintings. A special lamp is also part of the package, together with a lantern, flower vase, square table, and several bonus carpet variants. Finally, the add-on also includes four chairs that match the included table. The DLC is thus solely focused on expanding the player’s house decoration options.

New Halcyon Days at Taoyuan Update Is Now Live
The Galloping Horse Pack launched on Steam simultaneously with the Halcyon Days at Taoyuan soundtrack, which can now be purchased for $3.99. BotanX did not clarify whether this pair of DLC releases is a one-off or indicative of a wider trend. However, the Chinese studio previously committed to rolling out additional updates for its latest title for a while yet. The latest of those also launched earlier today, February 12, bumping the game’s version number up to 1.0.12. The new patch introduces 84 new Rumor Quests, 9 additional bookcase styles, and the ability to rotate furniture.
Halcyon Days at Taoyuan 1.0.12 also introduces some balancing changes, such as increasing the rate of ore acquisition, making this particular activity less grindy. Several bug fixes are also part of the package, including a fix that would sometimes prevent players from getting out of bed. On that note, the February 12 patch makes it impossible to discard or trade key items that can only be obtained once, though anyone who already got rid of them by accident seemingly has no choice but to start from an earlier save.
Because of its pixel art graphics, romance, and a varied gameplay loop mixing everything from farming to dungeon crawling, Halcyon Days at Taoyuan has elicited some clear comparisons to Stardew Valley. Many other Stardew Valley-esque titles are yet to release in 2026, including My Time at Evershine and Fields of Mistria (which is currently in early access).
