In celebration of the 10th Anniversary of Stardew Valley, creator Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone shared a retrospective video that took a look back at some never-before-seen footage of early builds of the game and also revealed Clint and Sandy as the next two romanceable marriage candidates coming in Update 1.7. Stardew Valley expanded massively with Update 1.6 in 2024, Update 1.7 looks to add even more exciting content to the game with Clint and Sandy getting more interactive content, along with additional changes coming to the game.

When Stardew Valley originally launched in 2016, it was quickly met with positive reception from audiences, with ConcernedApe revealing that the game sold 40,000 copies on its first day of launch. Multiple patches were released in the days following Stardew Valley‘s release, earning respect from audiences as ConcernedApe fixed bugs to improve the game and made it more enjoyable for users. As new updates for Stardew Valley were released over the years, more farm types were added, NPCs received individualized dialogue, more languages made the game accessible globally, multiplayer was released, and Ginger Island became a staple of exploration beyond Pelican Town. Stardew Valley creator Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone unveils the surprising truth behind the possibility of a direct sequel to the beloved farming sim.

Who are the New Marriage Candidates in Stardew Valley Update 1.7?

During a 10th Anniversary video, ConcernedApe shared a heartfelt thank you to fans for playing the game for so many years, for sharing community mods and player-made content, and for being a part of his development journey. Most excitingly, ConcernedApe confirmed that Clint and Sandy will be the new marriage candidates coming in Stardew Valley Update 1.7. Players first meet the blacksmith Clint when learning about how to get their equipment upgraded to make farming, mining, and foraging more efficient. Sandy can be found after completing all four Vault Bundles for the Stardew Valley Community Center and unlocking the bus that travels to The Desert. Clint is often seen as a shy and unassuming character who tries his best to fit in, while Sandy is known for being flamboyant and confident. Both have been requested as romanceable NPCs by Stardew Valley fans, and many players are finally getting their wishes granted with Update 1.7.

Players quickly took to social media to celebrate the reveal of Clint and Sandy as the new marriage candidates, with many teasing that it is far past time for Clint to move on from Emily and others overjoyed to finally court the alluring Sandy and bring her home to Pelican Town. Some were disappointed that the Wizard was not one of the romanceable NCPs in Stardew Valley, and others were disheartened to learn that Robin and Demetrius will be staying married, at least for the time being. Each of the marriage candidates in Stardew Valley include their own unique Heart Events, meaning players can see different cutscenes depending on which citizens they choose to build platonic friendships or romantic relationships with. Thanks to the changes to Clint and Sandy coming with Update 1.7, fans will have new dialogue and Heart Events to look forward to, once again expanding the replayability of the game.

Despite some disheartened reactions from players who have their own personal favorite characters they would have liked to romance, the consensus across the Stardew Valley community towards ConcernedApe’s retrospective and marriage candidates announcement has been overwhelmingly positive. While many are keeping their fingers crossed for future updates to add even more NPCs to the roster of potential spouses in Stardew Valley, others are focusing on the as-yet-unannounced additions that will also be on the way in Stardew Valley Update 1.7. Interested fans can stay tuned for the full 1.7 patch notes once the update drops, as well as other news on the future of Stardew Valley.
