Stardew Valley‘s movie theater gives players a fun experience with the villagers, but it could be the precursor to so much more. It’s something that most players won’t discover until late in their Stardew Valley playthroughs, making it something of a treat. However, it being a late-game feature doesn’t mean that the idea couldn’t be used for other areas of the game. In fact, the dynamic of the movie theater could be expanded to include other types of activities as well. A future update to Stardew Valley could take this idea to heart and create some extra meaningful events.
Players will encounter Stardew Valley‘s movie theater in different ways depending on the path that they choose in their playthrough. If the player chose to rebuild the community center, then the Junimos will build the movie theater to replace JojaMart after the Missing Bundle is completed. If the player instead took the Joja route, then they can pay 500,000 gold to build the movie theater in place of the community center after all other upgrades have been bought. The requirements to unlock the movie theater are among the highest in the game, so for many, it’s essentially Stardew Valley‘s version of post-game content.

The movie theater’s main use is building up Stardew Valley‘s friendships. The player can buy tickets to a movie, which changes every season. By bringing a villager to a movie and buying some concessions, the farmer can potentially earn up to 250 friendship points with them in a single in-game day. By keeping track of which villagers like which movies, relationship levels with various villagers can skyrocket thanks to good use of the movie theater. Of course, the farmer will have to pay every time they go to the movies, but by the time it’s unlocked, their farm’s income should more than cover it.
The movie theater is especially useful for building friendship with the Dwarf, who loves all movies.
More Activities Could Help Players Befriend Villagers in Stardew Valley
The movie theater is a fantastic way to earn friendship points in Stardew Valley, but it doesn’t have to be the only way for players to spend time with the villagers. There are a few other potential activities that could have similar results. For example, perhaps the player could invite someone to go fishing with them, ask them to accompany them in the mines, or other such tasks. These are things that players will find themselves doing on many days anyway, and could be fun bonding activities. There would be good reason for players to be able to do these tasks with villagers.
New Activities in Stardew Valley Could Vary Based on Villager Tastes
These tasks could even function fairly similar to the movie theater. For example, Willy would probably love going fishing in Stardew Valley because he introduced the farmer to the concept, and he loves the sea in general; meanwhile, Vincent, being a kid, might find it too boring. Likewise, the adventure-seeking Abigail would probably enjoy a trip to the mines, but the less adventurous Penny might not be interested in such an outing. Players need to build each character’s friendship in Stardew Valley in different ways, and incorporating more friendship activities should reflect that philosophy through likes and dislikes.
Forming relationships with Stardew Valley‘s villagers is delightful, so more ways to do so would be well-appreciated. There’s still a possibility that Stardew Valley could see future updates, so a mechanic similar to this could end up being implemented at some point in the game’s future. Giving players more ways to spend time with the villagers would not only add more options, it would make the friendships seem more legitimate by giving them more things to do together. Stardew Valley‘s future could have more friendship activities beyond the movie theater.
