- Bethesda’s Starfield already has a thriving modding community, offering fixes, quality-of-life improvements, and even odd but fun mods for adventurous players.
Players of Bethesda’s Starfield can now experience the game as the iconic Spartan super soldiers from the Halo universe, including series protagonist Master Chief, thanks to a new mod. It is just one of many mods players have created to enhance their enjoyment of the spacefaring RPG.
Much like with Bethesda’s past games, a solid modding community has formed around Starfield since the title was released last September. There are currently more than 6,000 entries for the sci-fi game on Nexus Mods, the internet’s biggest mod repository, with a lot of these mods delivering fixes for Starfield‘s issues or providing player-requested quality-of-life improvements. There are also mods that add new content to Starfield, like a recent release that brought some armor sets from the Halo franchise to Bethesda’s RPG.
Starfield Releases Massive Update 1.9.47
Following a brief delay, Bethesda releases Starfield’s massive update 1.9.47 that introduces over 120 fixes and improvements to the hit game.
The Halo Spartan Armor Collection uploaded by Nexus Mods user Bonepunk adds Mark V, Mark VI, and Mark VII Mjolnir armor cores to Starfield. For context, beloved Halo protagonist Master Chief donned variants of the Mark V and Mark VI Mjolnir armors in the games. The individual armor parts that Bonepunk’s mod adds, which are available in various colors and patterns, can be mixed and matched to create custom sets. However, the release is still a work in progress, and users have been warned that clipping might occur if armor pieces from different cores are paired together.
Considering its popularity in the gaming industry, it should come as no surprise that modders have long been trying to insert content from Halo into other games, even those that bear no surface-level similarities with Microsoft’s flagship franchise. FromSoftware’s original Dark Souls received an impressive Halo mod that turned the normally melee-focused dark fantasy RPG into a shooter. Starfield‘s spiritual predecessor, The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, also has a mod that was heavily inspired by Halo.
Bethesda’s latest title already offers a diverse selection of mods despite only being released in September. For adventurous players, there are extremely cursed mods for Starfield that add things like a Nicolas Cage flashlight to the game. Another interesting mod replaces the voice of Starfield NPC Cora Coe with that of Bobby Hill from Fox’s animated sitcom King of the Hill.
Starfield players who are looking to simply improve their overall gameplay experience without ruining immersion are in luck as well. Some of the best mods for Starfield improve the game’s visuals, add features like the ability to adjust field of view, or even just make the game more responsive, among other things.
Developed by Bethesda Game Studios, Starfield is a sci-fi action role-playing game where players interact with multiple factions, engage in combat, customize their main character and ship, as well as explore a universe that features over 100 systems and 1,000 planets.
