- One Starfield player has recently recreated Dana Scully from The X-Files in Bethesda’s galaxy-hopping RPG.
- While the player admitted the resemblance to Gillian Anderson’s iconic character was accidental, the end result was so remarkable that it even elicited a response from Bethesda.
- One of the studio’s community managers hence praised the character as nailing Scully’s “skeptic” look.
Following a lot of fiddling with the Starfield character creator, one player has recently ended up with a protagonist that looks like a faithful recreation of Dana Scully from The X-Files. Although the character was created by accident, its resemblance to Gillian Anderson’s iconic FBI agent was so strong that it even elicited a response from the Starfield developer.
Like all of Bethesda’s 3D RPGs, Starfield offers a feature-rich character creator that allows players to customize their protagonists to the tiniest details. There has been no shortage of fans who have attempted to do just that since the game’s release, consequently producing Starfield renditions of iconic characters such as Tony Soprano and Ripley from the Alien franchise.
Starfield Player Creates Alien’s Ellen Ripley
Starfield was inspired by the Alien franchise, and one player brings the comparison full circle by modeling their character after Ellen Ripley.
One of the most recent such creative endeavors yielded an in-game recreation of Special Agent Scully from The X-Files. Authored by Reddit user h8m8, this custom Starfield protagonist is particularly interesting because her final design wasn’t exactly planned in advance. Instead, h8m8 said they had “accidentally” ended up with Dana Scully while starting their first playthrough of the game, without elaborating on their creative process.
Accidental or not, the character’s resemblance to The X-Files protagonist was so uncanny that it even attracted Bethesda’s attention. Specifically, one of the company’s community managers, Jess, later took to Reddit to write that they loved the end result of h8m8’s design efforts, stating that the fan has “definitely nailed [Scully’s] skeptic dismissive look.” Seeing how the image of the character had already made its way to the front page of the game’s largest subreddit by that time, it would appear that many fans were in agreement with that sentiment.
Although the screenshot itself revealed several settings that h8m8 used to mimic Dana Scully’s appearance, the player did not share a detailed tutorial for recreating the character. Following in their footsteps is hence not going to be an easy task for anyone wanting to do so, as the sheer number of features included in the Starfield character creator makes any deliberate designs of this sort an uphill battle that requires a significant time investment. That’s in no small part because many of the options in the creator are simply labeled as “shape blends,” making it impossible to assess what they do without a lot of experimentation.
Starfield Character Creator Is Likely To Get Better in the Future
That notwithstanding, there has still been a steady influx of creative Starfield characters ever since the game hit the store shelves in September. Even more are likely to follow once the official Starfield modding tools are out, as many of the game’s modders have already decided to work on ways to improve its character creation process.
Developed by Bethesda Game Studios, Starfield is a sci-fi action role-playing game where players interact with multiple factions, engage in combat, customize their main character and ship, as well as explore a universe that features over 100 systems and 1,000 planets.
