The developer behind upcoming Xbox-published game State of Decay 3 could be shutting down before the game is fully released. The potential closure of the State of Decay 3 studio comes as part of growing rumors of another wave of layoffs coming at Xbox.

State of Decay 3 Was Revealed Before Development Even Started

Head of Undead Labs Philip Holt reveals that the studio released State of Decay 3’s announcement trailer before even starting development.

Layoffs Coming at Microsoft, Undead Labs Potentially at Risk

New reports about a suite of pending layoffs could see State of Decay 3 developer Undead Labs closing its doors. A recent press call with Communication Workers of America District 9 vice president Frank Arce revealed that Microsoft is expected to begin another wave of layoffs, potentially as soon as early July. Several Xbox studios may be on the chopping block as part of the layoffs, including Undead Labs, Double Fine Productions, Compulsion, and Ninja Theory. The affected studios alone represent more than 400 jobs that could be lost as a result of the layoffs, and more are expected at Blizzard and Bethesda. Reports have suggested that the planned layoffs could account for “the biggest single cut series” for the Xbox brand.
