Deponia features all the point-and-click staples, and that includes a sense of humor that’s present in virtually every corner of the game’s 2D environments. Players control Rufus, a figure stuck at the lowest rung of the social class and stuck living in “literal mountains of trash.” Rufus has a simple goal: make money and enter a better state of living. He seemingly gets his chance when a rich woman named Goal (a fun play on video game objectives) plummets from the sky, and though he plans to return her to her husband for profit, he falls for her, and players end up needing to bring the two together.

If players end up liking Rufus’ story, or simply wish point-and-click games were more common nowadays, they’ll be happy to know that there are several sequels to Deponia that are also available on Steam. Named Chaos on Deponia, Goodbye, Deponia, and Deponia Doomsday, players have hours upon hours of additional content to dive into if they enjoy this first entry. The first of these two games can be grabbed for just $3 via The Complete Journey, which is on sale until August 17 and is typically $30. However, Deponia Doomsday will have to be bought separately. Alternatively, players can add the sequels to their Steam Wishlists and go through them one-by-one. All the games focus on Rufus and boast similar review scores from audiences.
If Steam freebie hunters want a very different kind of experience to keep them busy, NBA 2K26 is still free-to-play at the time of writing, though August 14 is the end of that promo.
