Steam users once again have a free game that they can add to their digital libraries, but anyone interested has to do so by April 20. There have been multiple free Steam games given away in April 2026 representing a wide variety of genres. One such genre that Steam users have been able to partake in at absolutely no cost is horror, with a first-person horror game given away for free earlier in the month.

Last week, Steam users were able to claim Chamber Survival for free. Chamber Survival is a first-person horror game where players have to escape from a room by finding key items and solving puzzles. It was free until April 9, and has since reverted to its usual asking price of $15.99. Now horror fans have yet another free game to claim on Steam, and so anyone that missed out on Chamber Survival or who wants to grow their collection of horror games should jump on the opportunity while they still can.

10 Great Horror Games With No Sequel

A few of the best horror games ever will never receive a sequel, and they don’t need one.

NineHells is Free on Steam

Anyone interested in claiming a single-player psychological horror game for free on Steam has until April 20 at 12:00pm CST to do so. NineHells is free to claim on Steam until then, but if you are someone that missed the free availability window, it’s worth pointing out that the game normally only costs $0.99 anyway.

Developed by Caffeineline, NineHells features jumpscares, a mystery to solve, and, according to its Steam page, “old school” puzzles reminiscent of early 2000s horror games. The game has players making their way through hell from a first-person perspective, encountering all kinds of disturbing sights along the way. It doesn’t look like it’s going to be any winning any awards, and there aren’t really any Steam user reviews to go by, but free is free.

Other Free PC Games Available Right Now

NineHells is currently the only free game on Steam at the time of this writing, but PC gamers willing to venture to the Epic Games Store have other freebies to claim. TOMAK: Save the Earth Regeneration and Prop Sumo are both free on the Epic Games Store until April 16 at 10:00am CST. TOMAK: Save the Earth Regeneration is a visual novel game, whereas Prop Sumo is a party fighter.

When TOMAK: Save the Earth Regeneration and Prop Sumo are cycled out of the Epic Games Store free games window, they will be replaced by The Stone of Madness. The Stone of Madness is a turn-based tactics stealth game where players have to escape a Spanish monastery. It’s not a full-blown horror game, but it may still be of more interest to PC gamers that enjoy the genre. The Stone of Madness will be free on the Epic Games Store until April 23, at which point it will be replaced by a different freebie (or multiple free games) that has yet to be revealed. PC gamers should be sure to claim all currently-available free games that catch their interest in the meantime.
