Developer Shift Up has finally pulled back the curtain on the official sequel, Stellar Blade: Blood Rain, while sharing plenty of footage and details with fans, for now. However, a release date or window is notably absent. Previously, Shift Up indicated it would release ‘Stellar Blade 2‘ before 2027 based on internal roadmaps, but that seems unlikely at this time.
Stellar Blade: Blood Rain‘s development has been more turbulent than others in 2026, which is saying something, but not in a drastic way. As fans know, Sony published Stellar Blade when it released in 2024, and it was a PS5 console exclusive. It would launch on PC later. For the sequel, Shift Up officially confirmed it was moving away from Sony’s publishing support and transitioning to a self-publishing “first-party service model,” meaning the studio itself will publish itself. The developer has stated this shift is intended to give it greater control over the IP’s identity and allow it to “reach a broad global audience from day one,” which is likely indicative of a simultaneous PC and PlayStation release, at least.

Stellar Blade: Blood Rain Revealed in New Trailer
After all, the entire trailer (seen above) is captured on PC. Shift Up confirms that Stellar Blade: Blood Rain is the next chapter for the action-adventure game franchise, all developed by the same team. It takes place in the same universe as Stellar Blade, but based on this trailer, it’s in more of a Cyberpunk-esque location.

Meanwhile, the original Stellar Blade protagonist Eve is replaced with a younger-looking protagonist named Evie, which is certainly rooted in generational replacement fears. While there is a new protagonist and a new setting, Shift Up has made it clear this is an official sequel that “continues the story beyond the events of the first game.” However, it also expands the world “in a bold new direction.”
According to Shift Up, the team is focused on expanding the core elements, world-building, and stylish action gameplay of Stellar Blade 1, but it’s worth noting that the project is still in early development. As such, especially with no confirmed release date, late 2027 is looking likely (if not pushed into 2028). That said, the trailer is a good sign.
CEO Hyung-Tae Kim recently spoke about Stellar Blade 2 and indicated that Shift Up’s plan was not to reveal it too early. Kim wanted the title to be in “good form” before showing and spoke on the slow and careful approach the team was taking. Specifically, he said, “We are working very hard on production, and we want to show it to you when it is finished in good form.” It may be in early development, as of this trailer, but it’s clear that the team is feeling confident all the same.
