On October 27, a new update for Cyberpunk 2077 was released that fixed an issue that had been preventing players from accessing the game properly. While Cyberpunk 2077 players on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles will receive the update, there’s a sizable difference between them.

Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the best examples of games that went from incredibly rough launches to absolute hits. Expectations for the game were extremely high, as fans waited eight years between its initial announcement and the actual launch date. While the game arrived with myriads of bugs, performance issues, and other glitches, CD Projekt Red has tirelessly worked to improve the game, and it now stands as one of the most popular titles in its genre. While the dev has largely moved on to new projects, it’s still making sure that Cyberpunk 2077 lives up to expectations with patches and content updates.

Cyberpunk 2077 Gets New Update

Developer CD Projekt Red quietly dropped a new update for Cyberpunk 2077, which initially left players scratching their heads, since it arrived just days after the free Edgerunners 2 Update that added a bunch of new content to the game. Upon inquiry, CD Projekt Red clarified that the update is going out to all players, but only directly impacts those playing the game in Argentina. A bug apparently surfaced that was preventing Cyberpunk 2077 players in Argentina from accessing their saved games, and this patch should fix that. No other bug fixes or additions were included in this release.

Players on PlayStation 5 are reporting that the update comes in at around 1 GB, while Xbox Series players need to download a 15 GB patch. This is a pretty standard difference between the two consoles when patches and updates land. Differences between the way that files are managed on the PS5 and the Xbox Series X often lead to larger updates for Xbox users, even though the content is the same. As one might expect, some Xbox gamers have expressed annoyance at needing to complete such a large download for a fix that only impacts a portion of the playerbase, but there’s likely not much CD Projekt Red can do about the situation.

With the current issue with the Argentina playerbase now addressed, CD Projekt Red may be turning its attention towards its other recent update, the version 2.5 Edgerunners 2 release. While many have been diving into the new content and enjoying it thoroughly, the introduction of the new content has reportedly led to a number of new bugs popping up that need to be addressed. With some luck, another patch amending any issues will be released soon.

Bugs aside, the new Cyberpunk 2077 release is doing quite well, if player counts are any indication. Steam saw a major bump in concurrent player count after the launch of the Edgerunners 2 update, with numbers rising from anywhere between 30,000 to 60,0000 on average over the prior month to nearly 200,000 on launch day. With players still showing this much interest in the game, it’s likely that Cyberpunk 2 will be just as celebrated at release, if not moreso than its predecessor.
