Nintendo Switch 2 gamers will soon have a new Zelda-like game to play that should tide them over while they wait for a new game in Nintendo’s beloved franchise to grace the system. The Switch 2 is not even a year old yet, but there are still those that are growing anxious for it to get its first main series Legend of Zelda game.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is a Switch 2 exclusive that’s available for fans to check out right now, but no new main series game is playable on the console. Luckily, the Switch 2’s backward compatibility means that it does have access to all the Zelda games that were ever released for Switch, but some fans may prefer a newer experience. While we still don’t know when Zelda itself will make its Switch 2 debut, we do know of an upcoming game from Square Enix that looks like it has serious Zelda vibes and could very well fill the void.

Adventures of Elliot Has Serious Zelda Vibes

The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is an upcoming HD-2D game from Square Enix and Claytechworks that’s set to hit the Switch 2, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S on June 18. Unlike previous Square Enix HD-2D games like Octopath Traveler that use turn-based combat, Adventures of Elliot uses a real-time combat system and features puzzle-solving and exploration elements that are highly reminiscent of Zelda. It may not be a brand-new Zelda game, but it should still be up the alley of anyone that is hungry for a new Zelda-style adventure on the Switch 2.

The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales has players utilizing seven different weapons and a variety of fairy magic to fight enemies and solve puzzles. Players will travel across time to a variety of dungeons with a fairy companion named Faie at their side (sound familiar?). Interestingly, Faie can be controlled by a second player in co-op, which could potentially broaden The Adventures of Elliot‘s appeal even further.

What’s been shown of The Adventures of Elliot so far has been very impressive, and it definitely looks like it will scratch that Zelda itch. The game will retail for $69.99 when it releases for Switch 2 on June 18, which is a pretty steep asking price, but fans can try before they buy. The game is getting a Prologue demo where progress can carry over to the full release, so any Zelda fans interested in the concept should at least give the demo a whirl to see if The Adventures of Elliot is right for them.

When is Zelda Coming to Switch 2?

Other Zelda fans may only be interested in the real deal, and that’s understandable. Nintendo has yet to officially announce the first Zelda Switch 2 game, but reputable leakers have claimed that an Ocarina of Time remake is in development for the console and aiming for release this holiday season. Nintendo is most likely going to host a Nintendo Direct in June where it will announce all its big upcoming Switch 2 games, and if that event comes to pass as expected, one has to imagine that the Ocarina of Time remake will be revealed at that point. If so, between a potential Ocarina of Time reveal and the release of the Zelda-like The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales, June should be a pretty big month for Legend of Zelda fans.
