In speaking about future sequels to The Blood of Dawnwalker, Director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz admits that decisions are still being made, but the game’s controversial time mechanic could be making a return. Launching the new IP at the start of September, The Blood of Dawnwalker has already become a big hit, with the physical version quickly becoming hard to find.

Selling over 1 million copies in just 2 days, The Blood of Dawnwalker has become a certified success story for Rebel Wolves. Alongside positive reviews, Rebel Wolves quickly announced that the studio was moving forward with its plans to turn The Blood of Dawnwalker into a franchise, with more sequels being readied behind the scenes. From the outset, The Blood of Dawnwalker was always intended to be the first part in a bigger saga, with some narrative elements and choices being carried forward. Thankfully, with the game’s success at launch, the team is able to make that happen and its game director is already discussing what future games could look like.

The Blood of Dawnwalker Sequels Could Feature Time Mechanics Again

In a recent interview, The Blood of Dawnwalker director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz was asked about potential features, including a potential return of the controversial time mechanic. Tomaszkiewicz admitted that nothing is set in stone at this point and that it could return if it made sense for the game’s story, either certain parts of it or the whole thing. The team won’t force it to make it the franchise’s identity and they’ll play around with it to see where or if it fits at all. Ultimately, Blood of Dawnwalker‘s controversial time mechanic isn’t a guarantee, as Tomaszkiewicz wanted to clarify that each game isn’t intentionally going to utilize the same “scheme or loop.”

Find the odd one out before the timer hits zero.

In the same interview, Tomaszkiewicz also teased future installments of the series. Rebel Wolves is also “considering and researching some other crazy ideas” for future entries with the intention of pushing the RPG genre forward to surprise people. Clearly, Rebel Wolves isn’t afraid to take chances on trying new things, with Blood of Dawnwalker‘s time mechanic and day-night cycle being prime examples of that.

Even though the studio may be willing to push the envelope, some players just simply weren’t fans of these changes. Despite having a big open map to explore, Blood of Dawnwalker gives players 30 days and 30 nights to rescue the protagonist’s family, with most actions pushing the time mechanic forward. Some players have even taken things a bit further, as new mods for Blood of Dawnwalker basically remove the time limit completely. One called “Better Story Timer” triples the time limit to 90 days, removes time cost for equipping perks, and expands day/night time segments from 8 pips to 32. For those with a completionist mind, the expanded time lets players take on most everything in a single run, even if it trivializes the game’s core mechanic.

Since launch, Rebel Wolves has continued to release new updates for the game, which have gone a long way in helping to fix the PC issues of Blood of Dawnwalker at launch. Highlights include VSync and stability improvements, stuttering fixes, and a much better shader compilation process.
