Massive Entertainment releases Rise Up for Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, a brand-new season that adds a ton of new content and changes to the game, including a new weapon rarity tier as well as a new endgame challenge mode. It’s been a strong couple of months for Ubisoft’s The Division 2, with the game seeing another spike in popularity through continued seasonal content and other major updates. The latest season has finally arrived, bringing with it a wave of new content to explore.

It’s clear that 2026 is going to be a big year for The Division 2, as Massive Entertainment has already confirmed a lot of new content coming down the pipeline. Not only that, 2026 represents the 10th anniversary for The Division franchise as a whole and fans have been able to enjoy a variety of special events and celebrations already. Back in March, The Division 2 revealed a special anniversary pass full of outfits representing iconic Ubisoft characters, the return of new Global events like Ambush and Assault, as well as a special Realism mode that could be played through the Warlords of New York expansion. While the festivities have since concluded, the Anniversary Celebration has given way to The Division 2‘s newest seasonal update.

The Division 2’s Player Count Spikes After Roadmap Reveal

Following The Division 2’s Anniversary plans along with its ambitious 2026 content roadmap, the player numbers spike by a significant amount.

The Division 2 Rise Up Adds New Content for Players

Known as Rise Up, the latest seasonal content for The Division 2 is packed with new stuff. For many fans, the biggest piece to this season is Escalation, a mode which Massive reveals was designed to be an endgame level challenge. From a dedicated menu in the Base of Operations, players can select one of 10 tiers for the mission, with higher levels requiring special Tokens to be spent. The lowest tier is always free and successfully finishing the mission will reward more tokens, while failing will mean the tokens used are spent and can’t be recovered. Each Escalation run is a single attempt, so players should be aware that there are no checkpoints and a team wipe means it’s over.

Escalation missions are designed to be highly replayable, not only with higher tiers offering players a greater challenge with the promise of better loot, but with mutators and modifiers also being added. These include things like Suppressor, where enemies will charge an EMP every time they’re damaged before releasing a blast and disrupting everything in range. Massive intends to keep things fresh by adding, changing, and removing the list of modifiers each season.

The Division 2 Prototype Gear

As a looter shooter, The Division 2 is giving players a big reason to check out Escalation as the mode is currently the only way to potentially earn new Prototype gear. This rarity tier is brand-new, sitting above The Division 2‘s current High-End, Named, and Gear Set items, and its big feature is that Prototype level loot comes with augments and stronger attribute values. Players can earn Prototype gear from Escalation runs, or convert High-End level items, as long as it is Level 40 and at the maximum Expertise level in The Division 2. Players will also need to spend 1 Prototype Core, which is obtained from dismantling gear from this rarity tier. Keep in mind that once an item becomes a Prototype Gear, it can be recalibrated or optimized further, so players will likely need to upgrade multiple versions of the item to hit a specific roll.

Retaliation mode now focuses on The Division 2‘s Black Tusk faction this season, as an Agitation meter will fill up as players take out enemies and complete related activities. Black Tusk can now take over Control Points and have a chance to drop DIAMOND Transceivers, which can be used for Retaliation-specific blueprints like Provocator, Tempest, Blacklisters, and more. Players can also find Kill Squads while playing, offering a challenge to overcome but are worth it as they have a chance to drop some blueprints for rare exotics. In fact, players who manage to complete a full Retaliation may even find themselves in possession of Raid or Dark Zone-specific exotic blueprints.

Rise Up features a host of quality of life updates for The Division 2 as well, including bringing new exotic weapons and gear into the game such as the Agitator Auto Rifle or Investor mask. Core Strength and Royal Works are added to The Division 2‘s list of gear sets, and there’s even a new Seasonal Pass to work through as well.
