Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment revealed that the Swedish studio is becoming the global label for Tom Clancy’s The Division, Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell, as well as new IP called March of Giants. Massive Entertainment has largely been known for its work on Tom Clancy’s The Division franchise, which has proven to be a big winner for Ubisoft over the years and, as a result of those successes, the studio is being provided a major opportunity to become a caretaker for some of the brand’s biggest IPs.

It’s been a strong 10 years for Massive Entertainment being a lead development studio, launching Tom Clancy’s The Division back in 2016 and successfully leading that franchise through 10 years of games and content for its players. Although the studio is likely best known for The Division franchise, it has also been able to brand out a bit as well, leading development on well-received experiences like Star Wars Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora as well. However, the studio’s future appears to now be firmly tied with Ubisoft’s Tom Clancy brand, with the latest announcement being a major opportunity.

Massive Entertainment Details What’s Next

In a public announcement, Massive Entertainment revealed that the studio is becoming the global label for three major Tom Clancy IPs including The Division, while also incorporating Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell. In addition, Massive’s umbrella will also include a brand-new IP called March of Giants. What this means is that the development studios currently working on games in these franchises will operate under Massive’s brand to unite the creative and technological aspects.

The reorganization appears to be similar to what Microsoft recently did with its Xbox studios, including shifting Obsidian Entertainment under Bethesda’s umbrella. The post also goes on to confirm that the development teams across Montréal, Paris, Sweden, and Toronto will continue working, but it’ll now be under the Massive Entertainment branding, which will no doubt have a big impact on the future of these franchises as the teams combine over time to shape the IPs.

Based on the comments alone, many fans are hopeful that this shift will finally be the spark that the Splinter Cell Remake needs to make progress. Since it was announced in 2021, the Splinter Cell Remake has seemingly struggled with leadership members departing, delays, and other development issues and there has been little to show for the years of development.

Ghost Recon, while it has been a while since a new game has launched, has been largely the opposite. In fact, Ubisoft surprised fans by launching a Definitive Edition of Ghost Recon Wildlands in celebration of the franchise’s 25th anniversary. Alongside the new version, it also released new DLC called Last Rites where players hunt down a dangerous and mysterious enemy known as La Llorona. The celebrations concluded with a tease for a brand-new game through the Insider program.

In terms of The Division 2, Massive Entertainment has seen the popular shooter continue to pull in players, supporting the game with continued seasonal content as well as bigger features. In fact, 2026 is shaping up to be a massive year for The Division 2 as the game celebrated the franchise’s 10th anniversary earlier this year, while the game is readying a brand-new expansion called Echoes of Central Park. Not only that, the fan-favorite Survivors game mode is right around the corner all the while Massive continues to work on a brand-new Division 3 game behind the scenes.
