The Legend of Zelda: The Rosemaster is here, giving fans a brand-new adventure with Link to enjoy. Best of all, this new Zelda title is available 100% free of charge, meaning players don’t have to pay to experience this 80-hour experience.

The Legend of Zelda is one of gaming’s longest running franchises, having debuted on the Famicom Disk System in 1986. There have been countless games in the series since, and Nintendo has done a great job ensuring Zelda has never really had a slump in quality. Now, 40 years later, the franchise is arguably more popular than ever.

The Legend of Zelda: The Rosemaster Fan Game Announced

The Legend of Zelda: The Rosemaster is a new fan game created by Tabletpillow on PureZC, bringing Link back for a brand-new adventure. Fans can download the ZQuest Classic-created title for free right now, and enjoy a story that takes, according to the creator, between 50 and 80 hours to complete. As it was created in ZQuest, it has the classic pixel art graphics that the very earliest games in the series were known for, and the style looks awesome.

The creator says that The Legend of Zelda: The Rosemaster contains “non-subtle political undertones” and “mature elements despite the tone of the game being mostly comedic,” advising players to only try the fan game if they’re comfortable with that material. The rest of the game is very typical Zelda, with dungeons, combat, puzzle-solving, and more. While players play as Link here, the creator touts four other major characters who are developed as the story progresses.

Fan games are a great way for talented creators to create their own stories in the Legend of Zelda universe. An engine like ZQuest Classic allows these creators to recreate the style of the early Zelda games perfectly, but they’re not the only flavor of fan game. Take something like The Legend of Zelda: The Glass of Fate, for example – another fan game set to release next year that emulates the style of the N64-era games. These kinds of projects are instrumental in ensuring the franchise continues to remain relevant between major releases.

While fan games are cool, it isn’t long before Zelda fans get their next official release from Nintendo. The long-awaited Ocarina of Time remake finally releases on November 5. As a remake of one of the best video games ever made, Nintendo has a very high bar to meet in order to meet expectations.
