The source code for multiple versions of Metal Gear Solid 2 has reportedly leaked online, uploaded to a 4chan thread by some anonymous individual. While the origin of the leak is currently unclear, the files in the leak appear to be dated 03/04/2007, implying that they may have been used for the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, which was released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in November 2011.
The earliest source of the leak appears to be a thread on the /vr/ board on 4chan, which includes a partial download link for the data-sharing site Pixeldrain. Alleged leaks always warrant skepticism, especially ones claimed to have originated on 4chan. But based on initial comments and screenshots shared in the thread (alongside another, later thread on the /v/ board), there’s reason to believe the leaked source code may be real.

According to those who claimed to have download the files from the links posted on 4chan, there are a few curious details regarding their contents. For a start, the leak apparently doesn’t contain any actual assets from Metal Gear Solid 2. At least that appears to be the case based on the size of the files provided, which sit at only 155.8 megabytes.
On one hand, that may lead you to believe that this is fake. However, it appears to be just the source code, sans the assets themselves, which could still prove extremely interesting for those looking to mod or port the game to other systems. Speaking of ports, though, the file reportedly contains the source code for several different versions of Metal Gear Solid 2 HD, including the 360, PS3, and PlayStation Vita ports.
Curiously, though, it also apparently contains ports of Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, the expanded version of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, for both PC and the Nintendo Wii. The PC version isn’t a surprise, as Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance was released on Xbox, PlayStation 2, and PC, but a Wii version of the game was never even announced, let alone released.
So, provided it is the real deal, how exactly did the source code for Metal Gear Solid 2 HD end up on some random 4chan thread in 2026? One working theory is that this could have leaked via Armature Studio, which was responsible for the PlayStation Vita port of Metal Gear Solid HD Collection. Armature Studio was purchased by Meta in 2022 and then subsequently shut down by Meta in January 2026. It wouldn’t be the first time that source code leaked after a studio was shuttered, as hard drives and equipment often end up being taken home by employees or auctioned off when a developer shuts down.
