With The Super Mario Galaxy Movie set to hit theaters on April 1, audiences have been delighted with an early reveal at the official popcorn bucket for the highly-anticipated sequel, and Yoshi fans will want to act fast to get ahold of the adorable dino-themed collectible. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is the second animated feature starring Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Toad, and this new movie will not only highlight story beats and environments from the Super Mario Galaxy games but it will finally introduce film-goers to Rosalina and the beloved Yoshi.

The original Super Mario Galaxy game released on the Nintendo Wii in 2007 and was quickly hailed as both one of the best 3D-platforming Mario titles of all time and one of the greatest releases in the entire Super Mario Bros. franchise. It was followed up with the sequel, Super Mario Galaxy 2, in 2010, with the two games most recently re-released in a physical edition enhanced collection for the Switch and available separately for the console via the Nintendo eShop. Looking to build upon the success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie that dominated theaters in 2023, Universal Pictures and Illumination turned to the dazzling world of Super Mario Galaxy for the sequel, and fans are already just as excited about the new merchandise as they are for the colorful movie.

Some Super Mario Fans Are Really Not Happy About Birdo Being in the New Galaxy Movie

A teaser trailer for Super Mario Galaxy ignites debates among fans about Birdo’s potential role in the film and her presence over other characters.

Super Mario Galaxy Movie Yoshi Popcorn Bucket

Cinemark and AMC Theaters have officially revealed the incredibly cute new Yoshi popcorn bucket that will be releasing alongside The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The popcorn bucket features a seated green Yoshi holding a massive egg that “cracks” open to hold popcorn for fans to snack on while enjoying the new Super Mario movie. Several weeks prior, alleged leaks teased the then-potential popcorn bucket, though it was heavily wrapped in plastic and photographed at a packing facility. Now that the popcorn bucket has been officially showcased in all its glory, audiences are keeping their fingers crossed that the must-have collectible will be plentifully stocked in the lead-up to the film’s release. A price for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Yoshi popcorn bucket has not yet been revealed, but other recent buckets from Cinemark and AMC, such as the one for Project Hail Mary, retailed in the $30-40 range.

Considering the massive popularity of the Super Mario Galaxy games, it should come as no surprise that gaming fans and movie fanatics alike are already preparing their wallets for the Yoshi popcorn bucket. The collectible is one of several recent merchandise reveals for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie that have sparked major celebration among fans. Universal Studios announced a glowing Luma shoulder-pal that will be sold exclusively at their theme park locations in Hollywood and Orlando, which will be part of a limited-time Super Mario Galaxy Movie event that will also feature a Yoshi meet-n-greet. Between the Yoshi popcorn bucket and other Galaxy merchandise, analysts are expecting The Super Mario Galaxy Movie to be just as successful, if not even more so, than its predecessor.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie was one of the highest-grossing films of 2023 and even managed to climb the charts to become one of the highest-grossing animated movies of all time, so if The Super Mario Galaxy Movie truly can follow suit, it could be just what Universal, Illumination, and Nintendo need to greenlight a third film. There has already been a copyright registered for a Donkey Kong movie, though no official announcements have been made on such a project at the time of writing. Whether the box office results of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will have any bearing on the possible Donkey Kong film, or other sequels, remains to be seen, but continued hype for the movie, the enthusiastic responses to the Yoshi popcorn bucket, and ticket sales for the real-world celebratory events at Universal parks seem to bode well for the franchise’s future on the silver screen.
