Overwatch and April Fools’ Day have gone hand-in-hand for some time now, as one of the most enjoyable patches of the year sees the game overhauled with a wide range of gags. The most instantly recognizable is the googly eyes that get attached to Overwatch’s heroes, and they look just as silly as one would hope. Even better is the special LTM meant to look as if it were accidentally uploaded by Team 4, showing up as a string of text via the in-game menu (or in this year’s case, Underwatch). The mode is treated as a parody of balance updates where heroes are given wacky abilities that make a joke out of community discussions, with some humorous patch notes from Blizzard and new voice lines for the characters also included. Yet this year, all I can think about is an unofficial April Fools’ gag.
In addition to Underwatch, Overwatch’s latest April Fools’ Day celebration features a Pachimari Program icon in the task bar, serving as an extra little joke for PC users.

Overwatch’s DC Collab is Obviously Fake, But It Still Hurts
With Marvel Rivals existing now, the dream of an Overwatch and Marvel collab is pretty much dead, but there’s still hope for a team-up with DC, a comic book brand I love just as much. It’s for that reason I had a big smile on my face when I opened up Reddit this morning and saw a post featuring a screenshot from Overwatch Cavalry, an unofficial source breaking down updates, highlighting Overwatch skin leaks, and more. My eyes locked on Superman Soldier: 76, Batman Cassidy, and Wonder Woman Vendetta, with the final combo being such a perfect fit (and the mockup looking so good) that I instantly bought it. Then, I read the caption.
In Overwatch Cavalry’s defense, the joke is made perfectly clear. April 31 isn’t a real day, for one, and why would Cassidy be chosen for a character who hates guns (especially when Genji exists, since his shuriken could easily be swapped for Batarangs)? There’s even a mention of the fictional game DC Allies to drive home the gag. But as one of the many, many people who forgot what day it was and found themselves fooled by an April Fools’ gag, I’m still heartbroken. See, as well done as this joke is, it’s also my most desired Overwatch collab and something I’ve been hoping to see confirmed for a long time now.

What Other Skins Would Work for a DC x Overwatch Collab?
As a proud owner of over 100 DC Omnibuses, it didn’t take long to come up with a range of skins that could be added that go far beyond The Trinity (Supes and Bats should definitely go to different heroes instead of Soldier and Cassidy — maybe Rein and Genji — but I love the idea of Vendetta x Wonder Woman). Potential DC and Overwatch collab skins could be, but definitely aren’t limited to:
- Cyborg Doomfist
- Starfire Illari
- Gorilla Grodd Winston
- Red Hood Reaper
- Pharah Hawkgirl
- Joker Junkrat
- Bane Roadhog
- Black Canary Junker Queen
- Lex Luthor Hazard (Kryptonite spikes please)
- Green Arrow Hanzo
- Blue Beetle Emre
- Mr. Terrific Zenyatta
- Fire Anran
- Ice Mei
- Robin Tracer (Carrie Kelley)
- Jonah Hex Cassidy
- Harley Quinn Mercy
- Poison Ivy Moira
- Flash Lucio
- Nightwing Wuyang
- Aquaman Ramattra
- Green Lantern Lifeweaver (Kyle Rayner)
- Green Lantern Symmetra (Jessica Cruz)
- Green Lantern Sojourn (Jo Mullein)
- Huntress Freja
- Brainiac Sigma
- Constantine Soldier: 76
- Batgirl Kiriko (Cassandra Cain)
- Batgirl Sombra (Barbara Gordon)
- Catwoman Widowmaker
Unless James Gunn gets his wish and a DC hero shooter to rival Marvel Rivals is actually made, I need Blizzard and DC to work together like, yesterday. The above skins are just scratching the surface of what a collab between the two properties could look like, as it could easily justify multiple rounds of skins. With maps themed around locations like Gotham and LTMs that give heroes DC-like abilities being equally viable, I’ll keep holding out hope that this April Fools’ gag isn’t the closest we ever get to such a collab. More than any other prank I’ve seen today, this idea is a proper case of “if I don’t laugh, I’ll cry.”
